Title: RIMWORLD
Post by: TrashMan on February 09, 2014, 09:09:39 am
A short test play of this game:

Unfortunately, the game is far from complete, so there's not much content ATM.

I heartily endorse this game, even in it's current, bare form. I've sunk many, many hours into my little colony, fending off raiders and insanity. It's FUN.

Dwarf Fortress cousin I take it from the screenshot?

Near as I can tell, yeah. I've never played DF myself, but from the LPs and stuff I've heard, Rimworld is comparatively smaller, easier to play, not as complex (what is?), and much better looking.

... Trashman, why do you have so many graves? Don't tell me you're burying bandits?

EDIT:
THIS is how you deal with raiders

I don't know if you noticed, but looking at dead bodies affects the morale of your colonists. Every time they pass near one, they take a morale hit.

So it's best to burry them. Or using something like an incinerator if this game ever gets one.

PROTIPS:
- keep the batteries inside
- make personalized rooms 4x4. Most colonists feel 3x3 is still a bit cramped.
- Smooth the floors. It's cheap and better than concrete.
- putting carpets costs metal (???) but it does make the people happier
- a clean enviroment makes them also a lot happier. It's not a bad idea to have one or two people who will periodicly clean. Or just set everyone to prioritize cleaning for a day.
- turrets blow up. Don't place them next to eachother and don't place your colonist near.
- remote detonated bombs only cost 35 metal (compared to 190 of a turret) and can utterly ruin a raider attack if placed properly

 :wtf: Is this by Introversion??

It looks like the Prison Architect engine.

Think theme hospital but with electric chairs.

It's not, but I definitely noticed the similarities in art style. I think it's more of a convergent design/inspiration than anything else.

And aye, Trash, I noticed that. But I've gotten waaaayyyyy too many raiders piled up for burial to be effective at all. See: that video I posted.

I think I'll bump this old topic -instead of making a new one- since I've been hooked on Rigworld for a few weeks now. It's bloody addicting.

Currently I'm playing a 100% Cannibal colony (Cassandra Classic and Rough). I'ts been pretty morbid and cruel entertainment (the fridge room is filled with corpses and my cannibals will never ever have shortage of food).
The only problem is getting more colonists since Cannibals are quite rare. I would have enough materials to build the space ship if I wanted but this time I'll see how far I can go.

If anyone does a long play, I'd like to be a character. Some sort of (the usual) combat engineer/dems guy.

With mods such as EB Prepare Carefully, you can fully customize and prepare colonists before you start. Even the number of colonists you start with.

This games has a LOT of mods that are really good.

* Play game as a single Space Marine
* Do as much work as 20 colonists, build colony in day
* Unleash the fury of the Emperor on the raiders and centerpides

Yea I haven't checked out the mods yet. I'm having quite a blast as it is now.

Eventually I will of course and the first ones I'll check are of course the ones that allow renaming the peeps and so on.

Do you think it'll run well on an average netbook?

But then again, mine runs Crysis. :P

Honestly a simpler and less graphically dense DF clone has a lot of appeal to me after the last few times I was tempted to break my keyboard because the dorfs were...dorfs.

I do. It runs perfectly on my i5 with intelgrated graphics, so there are not likely to be any difficulties for you.

Eventually I will of course and the first ones I'll check are of course the ones that allow renaming the peeps and so on.

I think you can already change nicknames of any colonist, so at least they'll display correctly when they're running around.

I'd also recommend Pawn State Icons (https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=9163.0) and Apothecarius (https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=5450.0), both super-useful and lore-friendly!

Yes that is indeed doable in defauld build.

Oh and thanks for the list TrashMan. Will check it out one day.
