So, i have a teensy weensy problem with my FSO on linux (Ubunto 7.10 Gutsy Gibbons i think its full name is)

my conf is the following

Gnome desktop with CompizFusion running
AthlonXP 2800+
1.5 GB ram
Geforce FX5700 256 MB with 169.07 drivers (proprietary drivers provided by nVidia)
Realtek AC'97 chip (its a nForce2 chipset without soundstorm, go figure...)

FS2, no matter which mods are used the problem happens. it appears on most models, but for some reason, some models render up fine.

Also, i have the sound crackling problem, going through ALSA with my sound.

One question, you are using the Linux native version of FSO, right (not wine)?
Just asking, since this is the first time I see that effect on linux platform.

Here are some links, but the problem in these has been the Nvidia driver for Windows. So probably not too helpful when dealing with Linux problems.

Ok, I now managed to reproduce this myself. It appears that 3.6.9 builds are not compatible with the new Nvidia driver 169.07.
You should get rid of the stripes by either using a newer 3.6.10 build (Taylors xt builds) or by downgrading to 100.14.19 Nvidia driver.

Edit: Noticed you are already using the 28102007 build.. strange. Are you sure that version is what gets loaded too?

this is with the 28102007 build. the new media vp's (3.6.10) solved the problem for now, but so far,  ships that still have that problem are Herc mk II (complete texture), medusa (complete text), Orion (some textures, others are fine) and most of ravana. vasudan ships dont have any problems... most of the terran ones dont, but some still have, the ones i listed here are off the top of my head.

the old nvidia driver is extremely unstable on my system for some reason...
