Newbie reporting. Story question!
Hi All! I just downloaded FS2 and Knossos and am starting with the first game Freespace port with the MediaVP port. Awesome game, I miss the 90's! Is there some sort of lore write-up or backstory at all though? You just start the game at war with the enemy and are flying around smoking their ships but there's not much of a backstory. Should I just keep playing to find all of this out or there somewhere I can read about it? Thanks!

well, in game there is a place called the techroom that you can click on, it has all sorts of info about both ships, weapons and factions.

It will update as you play the campaign, so check it often!

I'll also throw in some self promo that's more narrative design focused:

I don't know of too many lore deep dives outside of the wiki, mainly cause there isn't that much in game. There is the FS1 reference bible which is more of a behind the scenes of the development process at this point:

Thanks Firesteel!

Re: Newbie reporting. Story question!
One more question that is off topic: Were the cutscenes replaced in FSPort? The scenes seem really grainy and appear to be original but I can't tell. Is there something other than MediaVP I need for them? Thanks!

Funny you should mention that... :D

The only one left that Mjn needs to finish is the Freespace 2 Intro cutscene. All the rest are done. And Mjn just finished End Part 1 (the one where the Shivans blow up Capella) today. Your timing is impeccable, Evil-Six. :D

Many of these cutscenes have been incorporated into the Port and MediaVPs, but not all of them, at least not yet. The good news is they should be coming soon, hopefully in the next Knossos update. (Don't ask me when that will be because I don't think anyone knows yet. :p )
