Title: Working with object2.pak
Post by: mikeva1 on July 20, 2015, 09:00:29 pm
I have not been able to figure out how to work with the object2.PAK file. I tried opening with notepad and got his for a header:

Îúíþ˜  ˜  Å  á
  $  )  .  Î

That's not the complete header but it shows what I am talking about.

I guess that your tutorial needs updating then. I will edit object2.pak out in my re-write noting that it is obsolete.

pak files are very application specific compressed files that can not be opened with a text editor.
  :eek:

What do you use to open and work with pak files? I have the open office suite so I can work on Excel type files and such.

None of this; it is obsolete as Magic stated already.

yes I realize that objects2.pak is obsolete - but there are a LOT of  other .PAK files in both data/sound, data/objects, and data/missions. Knowing how to work with them would be useful

The .PAK files in data/missions are the actual map geometries and such, and are messed with via EditRel.exe.

So of course I can do nothing with them on my laptop. EditRel.exe does not work on my laptop (WinXP) but it does work on my desktop (Win 7)
