It's looking really nice; you definately get that "i'm heavy" feel looking at it.

My only worry would be whether the missile pods are big enough for bombs, but since the origional models didn't consider that from what i remember then it's a moot point anyhow.

Shouldn't this be in the FS Port Upgrade subforum?

Yes, it should be in FSPort Upgrade.

But I do maintain that the Zods were retarded for ever decommissioning this and not the worthless Osiris. Which, by the way, in another case of the tech room blatantly lying, fixes none of the problems with Amun: the Osiris somehow manages to be a bigger target, have less armour/shields, AND have a smaller bomb capacity, while offering only a paltry speed increase which would not realistically make a difference against anything of note.

Lore ranting aside, this is lookin' good.

I think we're swiftly approaching the point where every single retail model has either been upgraded or is in-progress.  This is great. :D

Awesome work. I always liked this ship. Two turrets, lots of bombs, lots of guns. It looks great.

cheers! It's a heavy brick indeed. Lovely shape of it c: The misslepod in retail are of that size I'm afraid so not sure if I'm going to make some of them bigger or not.

yes indeed that will be great when that day comes :p

Awesome work. I always liked this ship. Two turrets, lots of bombs, lots of guns. It looks great.
One of my favourites too when it comes to bombers. The other one is the Ursa, go figure :p

A bit of detail work here and there, very rough in places and not much rounding when it comes to the plates, I have hardly started on the underside at all but focusing on the more complex bits first and foremost.
wee!

Yes, planning to include a modelled cockpit in the future.

Anyhow As I'm done with the Ma'at now I'm focusing on the Amun, it goes well. It seems easier to model since the textures appear less fuzzy.  Going to use p3d to showcase progress from now on, less images to use c:

edit: Added a top and under render as bonus. (for those who can't run p3n model site)

New update:
I believe the mesh is soon ready for mapping. Well I have already started to map some bits and planning ot what to do when it comes to texturing.

Didn't you say you were gonna add an internal cockpit?
Title: Re: PVB Amun [WIP]
Post by: Hades on August 06, 2012, 11:26:11 pm
My only gripe is the engine; I think it'd look better if done like the engines were done on the Ma'at or Aten, everything else is fantastic though, Odd.

EDIT: Looking at the wireframe, though, there's a bunch of edges that could be removed to drop the polycount some, they don't seem to add to the shape any. Send me the mesh and I will clean it up for you very quickly. Or I can point them out, but that's actually harder. :)

it's there but blocked by the glass mesh.

It's not optimized so there is still a lot of cleaning left. You have enough to do and I'd rather do something like that myself, but thanks for the offer. c:

hai Thanks again for the kind feedback!

Good to see those gigantic screws on the top aren't still modeled as round... I was wondering what those were going to end up being :D

Was fitting around with the rounded shape's until I discovered their true purpose: Those 'screws' are in fact missile gun points. So I altered  the mesh to better show it.

Texture update: http://p3d.in/ucUcX
Just a note: Due to the 1024 .jpeg texture limitation on textures I had to resize it and a rather obnoxious seam occurs in the middle which is not present of the full resolution version.

Before it's too late, I think you ought to go for a multicrew cockpit in this bomber. Having a crew of two or even four would be in order for this one; two side-by-side at the front, and if you go for four, two sitting facing the walls behind the pilots.

The cockpit is just modelled for one pilot, I have it uvmapped, baked and everything :1

Looks amazing. My one gripe: The 4 missile tubes on the top of the bomber look like the heads of screws.

Edit: Also, some of the baked glows from the blue recessed lines on the bottom are bleeding over the higher edge. Shouldn't be physically possible, and looks weird.

Fair, but the retail textures suggest recessed holes that have flaps that slide open. These new ones just look like screws.

You guys are stuck on your own interpretation as if it's the only one... I'm pretty sure Oddgrim already has animation in mind for what he has made with those.
Title: Re: PVB Amun [WIP]
Post by: Oddgrim on August 22, 2012, 09:18:58 am
Right just to say this, the number of pilots in the cockpit will not be changed from the current one. from a logical standpoint it may make sense 2 have two but from a gameplay view it does not. (the second guy will be in the way and viewpoint oddly placed .)

Regarding the 'screws' on the top has already been readied for animation, as if it you think it fits or not is indeed a point of interpretation.
The flaps themsevles has enough room for a flip up each time you fire a missile so now they will serve a function. I left one of the sides open to show it looks without the flaps closed.
The texturing itself I am painting , outlining machinery bits and working on the lower sides of the misslebanks.

Got started to work on this bomber again, the maps are pretty much done other then finishing the normals, getting the lods/debris done and fine tuning the fire animation so it works flawlessly.

Because It's originally a fs1 ship and the weapons table for it does not work in fs2 and I mostly upgraded it for use in BtA. Altough me not including the Fs1 comparable table in the release download would be a slight on my behalf. :1

Probably because the lack of a fs-port compatible tbl. Forgot to fix that ages ago ><

edit: fixed the mediafire download has the fs1 compatible table.

Yeah... I had the model from the original release way back before the new FSPort update rolled out. I had the Amun sitting in FS2, which has caused issues because the TBM in FS2 is being loaded over the VPs from fsport_mediavps. Apologies.
