Okay, I can see what you're asking, but, no, these things are somewhat outside the scope of the FreeSpace engine (Damn. I feel kinda bad about being the one always telling you that things are impossible right now...). Missions in Atmosphere seem to be doable (according to the
Shadows of Lylat team over on game-warden), but the kind of seamless space-to-atmosphere transition the video shows isn't.
IIRC, this question came up once already, and the answer then was that, yes, if they are doable, planetary missions will happen at some point, but that the Diaspora team would wait for SoL to do it first and then see what they could do.
