Weird background accidents
So I was test-flying a mission of mine late last night at around 2AM when I found this creepy-ass face in the background:

This was totally accidental, but it got me thinking: I wonder if anyone else has done something similar without meaning to in the background editor?

Re: Weird background accidents
 weird thing... I personally don't have that much time in missions to actually discover something like that, how did you came across something like that!

maybe a new post on the fan-fiction section, this place is most probably not the right one for this kinda post.

Re: Weird background accidents
True,  but I'll leave that up to the mods.

What happened was I sort of zoned out while the game was paused and after a while I noticed that the nebula was smiling at me... *cowers*

Re: Weird background accidents
This is fine in here.

I haven't seen anything with any hidden meaning, but there was one instance of some planets I had placed in the wrong order in the background list, with the attached result. It looks like they are floating in a waterfall. :D

Re: Weird background accidents
I think I know the mission that's from (Mission 2 of PI?), and I actually kinda prefer the "mistake" version. It's hauntingly beautiful, it adds a level of mystery to the planets.

I'm definitely doing something like that somewhere down the line.

Makes it look like there's some strange dense gas cloud there, not a nebula.

Re: Weird background accidents
Actually something like that occured to me...

I'd placed a Sun on the Background and was in the process of adding Nebula.

Anyway i placed a Nebula right behind the Sun and was startled to discover that it had the effect of making the Sun's Surface appear active

ie the Nebula clouds looked like Solar Flares and Prominences...

Iwas also able to tweak the Nebula so that it made the sun look like a proto-star (a very young star)

No pictures though

Krelus, just recolor it to green/blue and call it "Nagilum". It means you're probably gonna die as he likes to "experiment" with diff ways mortals die.

Yes, that's the mission. It did look kind of neat, but it was just too goofy to actually use in that mission. :p

If done right though, this type of effect could be useful as you say. Maybe it could depict a planet still in formation or a black hole collecting gases from the planet.

This almost reminds me of the blurred-out face on Soundgarden's "Superunknown" album. Great album, by the way...

Haha, that's funny, because I am actually planning on having something so monstrously large that it exists only as either a background bitmap or an interior. I'm still deciding what type of shape it should be, but it's tentatively been named "Chernobog."
