Re: All my articles go here
Howdy all!
If you, like me, are on lockdown for the foreseeable future, then there are a few things you can do to stop yourself going stir crazy from cabin fever. One of these is binge-watching Netflix.
Kingdom comes highly recommended - think Korean Game of Thrones with zombies 😊
Another two are gaming and reading.  Better yet, why not (sort of) combine the two? And that is my inelegant segue into letting you all know that my latest article is up on Exclusively Games “Nine MORE Games Based on Books.”

Enjoy!

https://www.exclusivelygames.com/9-more-games-based-on-books/

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was a great experience.  Kind of clunky mechanically due to its age, but absolutely dripping with atmosphere.

Its in my steam library somewhere, and is on my 'I must get around to playing sometime' list  :)

Re: All my articles go here
Greetings everyone.

I have recently created a five-part investigative series into the shady world of ‘freemium’ gaming. Why ‘shady?’ Because under the bright colours and cute cartoony graphics there lays a very dark heart.

In this series we will investigate what a freemium game is, the vast scale of the freemium gaming industry, and the depths of its unethical and predatory business practices. We will see that these games are designed to be as addictive as possible - at the biological level - and thus exploit the most vulnerable.

We start this journey of discovery on a lighter note as I recall my near miss with freemium gaming in The Perils of Freemium Gaming (Part 1): My Story

Re: All my articles go here
Hello everyone.

As you may know, I have created a five-part investigative series into the murky world of freemium gaming which is being published by Exclusively Games. Episodes will be published at intervals over the coming weeks.

In this, the second part of the series we investigate the size of this multi-billion $/£ a year industry and the questionable methods it uses to attain such astronomical wealth.

We also uncover how freemium games manipulate and abuse the reward centres of the brain to make them as addictive as possible to keep players playing – and paying – long term.

Feel free to take a look if you are interested. If you have any freemium gaming horror stories you would like to share please do. If you would prefer to do so anonymously please PM me – confidentiality assured.

Re: All my articles go here
Hey guys!

In addition to my regular work at Exclusively Games, I also write guest posts for other publications, such as the fine folks at GameLuster. This is one of them 😊

Some games are so influential that whole genres are named after them - Doom Clone’s anyone?
Others influence games across multiple genres, and none more so than the games of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise. Its distinct atmosphere, setting and tone have shaped many of the Eastern European games that followed it. We investigate how in the article below.
Enjoy!

Re: All my articles go here
Hi everyone!

I have completed ‘The Perils of Freemium Gaming’ series and all five episodes (is that the right word for serialised articles?) are now up and ready for viewing at Exclusively Games.
Apologies for forgetting to update you all about episodes three and four. I have been tied up recently with the joyous task of submitting self-assessment tax returns (snore) and dealing with multiple cases of plagiarism - people keep copying my work (Grrrr). More details on that to follow BTW.
Anyway, enjoy. Episode five has links to episodes one-through-four for anyone who missed them or needs a recap.

Hi all, I hope everyone is as well as can be expected under the circumstances. My next article with Game Luster is up and ready for anyone who would like to read it.

"The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games have greatly influenced the Eastern European games that came later. In this, the second of a two-part miniseries exploring these influences, we investigate the gameplay mechanics that make "Stalkerlikes" what they are. So, put on your gas mask and get out your Geiger counter and join us as we enter the Zone."

Enjoy 😊

Re: All my articles go here
As some of you may know several of my articles with Exclusively Games have been plagiarised, which is a tad annoying.

But what really irks me was the pi$$ poor job they did of it. If you are going to rip off someone’s work, at least do it right. Shoddy plagiarism is just plain lazy and makes the plagiarist look amateurish. Business guru and motivational speaker Marcus Makeprofit explains how to plagiarise like a pro.

FYI Exclusively Games has closed its doors. Possibly permanently, possibly just on hiatus. I can't say anything more than that since they haven't told us writers anything.

I have set myself the task of creating The (Almost) Complete History of Video Games. I have completed twenty articles already which has brought us up to the 8-bit era. I imagine another 30 - to - 50 entries should bring us up to the present, so about a year's work ahead of me. I figured I should put my *ahem* 'veteran age' to some good use. My main qualification for covering this ancient history of video games? I was there

Thank you. I have 145 long-form (i.e 1K+ word count) completed articles under my belt at the last count - if I include the 30 odd articles that were supposed to be published on Exclusively Games but now won't be for obvious reasons. I'm planning on uploading at least two of these a day to my own site until they are all published. Therefore this thread is going to be pretty active for the next few weeks - apologies in advance if it starts getting a little spammy.

Then I'm planning to rebrand the site, framing it as a repository of historical video game information, that way it should not be seen a conflict of interest when I attempt to whore myself out to IGN, PC Gamer, ARS Technica etc. :-)

PS - video from Exclusively Game's founder explaining the closure of the site - since I just realised I forgot to post it last time - oops: https://youtu.be/7RNlrw5rlW0

Re: All my articles go here
Hi all! me again :-)

I have been a bit crap at keeping people up-to-date with my work. Sorry about that. This has been due to spending so much time and energy creating that I haven't had the time or energy to indulge in my usual shameless self-promotion afterwards   ;)

I will be updating this thread regularly from now on. :)

So, without further ado...

Do any of you have phobias? If so, have they ever been 'set off' by a video game? If so, you are not alone - far from it in fact. I have investigated phobias and video games and summed up my findings in a two-parter article with Game Luster. This covers the negative ways players have been affected by phobias when playing video games, what both developers and players can do to make their games 'phobia-friendly' and how video game technology has been used by professionals to treat people's phobias. Enjoy  :)
