Combat Helo: Gunnery (a prelude to a bigger sim)
A spiritual successor to Jane's Longbow 2 currently on Steam Greenlight (Concepts): http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=225869017

It might be a nice alternative to the DCS World series of sims as it's aiming to be less austere in terms of presentation and mission "atmosphere", and closer to sims from the '90s, back when it wasn't always about the aircraft being modeled (the AH-64D Apache Longbow in this case (duh)).

It's starting off as a rolling release, initially with a gunnery range and associated challenges. I've seen other assets shown on the developer's blog including a Chinook, and maybe an OH-58 Kiowa for future DLC.

The lead developer (Richard "Flexman" Hawley) has previously worked as a playtester for Razorworks' Enemy Engaged series, and I think he was also involved with the old Apache Longbow and Hind sims made by Digital Integration (I could well be wrong about the latter two). This sim looks quite promising considering it's been a mostly 2.5-man effort until recently.

It looks a lot like the engine is one of the Real Virtuality ones from Bohemia Interactive.

It's Leadwerks 2.51 but they are looking at using a different one for a second or third generation release, like Unigine.

It's not the finished product by any means. The explosions look a bit old school but on OTOH, whether that was intentional or not it might fit in with the '90s sim atmosphere.
