Title: HL2 on tha' X Box
Post by: Roanoke on November 05, 2006, 03:53:40 pm
Anygood ?

My pc is getting on for 5 years old so it ain't gonna be up to the job and I'm not especially inclined to spend ££££s replacing it.  And ofcourse there's steam.

Plus I hate wasting money on ****e games.

Well, everything is there but the framerate is not so good.

You're better off with the mega-360 pack coming out soon.

HL2 with enhanced effects.
HL2 Episode 1
HL2 Episode 2
TF2
Portal

I know. If you have a 360 though, the 360 version is a much better deal.

Get the PS3 version or whatever suits your fancy, but I wouldn't really recomend the Xbox version.

Deepblue, cut it out, i REALLY doubt that Roanoke, unlike yourself would WANT to fork out a huge wad of cash to purchase a console for just ONE game.

The guy has an xbox, not a 360, not a playstation iteration, but a plain ol' Microsoft xbox..
that, and you DIDN'T answer the guys question, you answered it with what sounded like a sales pitch.

Halo 2 for the xbox is rather good, if a little lesser in sheer graphical terms to its PC counterpart.

Well, it's mainly this:

"I'm not especially inclined to spend ££££s replacing it."

So why would he be inclined to spend 700.00 on a PS3, or 450 on a 360?

But it's Microsoft!!!

Oh come on. When was the last time you posted something that wasn't a X-Box360 commercial or PS3/Wii bashing ?

See ? I don't remember either.

Be fair (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=944;sa=showPosts), he's posted at least 2 non Xbox topics in the last 2 pages there.

Quite true, and I don't don't seem to recall any bashing whatsoever beyond general anti-Sony sentiments that we're all guilty of making at one time or another. So unless you define 'bashing' as not showing interest in the PS3 & Wii, lay off the lad a bit, yeah?

No, I mean all he does these days is either post gushing previews of 360 games, copy/paste long press releases of Microsoft or copy/paste the latest articles about how Sony is ****ing up the PS3 or how ridiculous the Wii is. Not that he's the only one praising/bashing one console or the other.

But the fact that he's only posting about the 360 and its competitors, or topics at least remotely connected to Microsoft consoles (like the BlueRay vs HD-DVD topic) makes me wonder. What happened to him since those days when he was participating in other stuff, like modding FreeSpace (which he did in the past) ?

Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD has nothing to do with Microsoft...

Yes it does.  Blu-rays' success is entirely crucial to the success (or failure) of Sonys Playstation 3 console - shockingly, a competitor to the Xbox360.  Or is MS releasing an HD-DVD peripheral for the 360, a media which they have stated they will never use for games - entirely coincidental?

THe original Xbox version is "ok"

Its the same game (mostly) but it suffers from some graphical ugliness that will not be in the 360 version.

As to why you should get a 360, its 450 bucks, but you wont'have have to respend it every 6 months to keep up with the newly released games on ram or video card upgrades, it will let you play MOST of the original Xbox games AND the newly released 360 games.

The downside though is you will need to pay ~60$ a year to play the online games with people (except MMO's). The games themselves are also ~60 bucks as opposed to 20-50 for the original versions.

If you have an original Xbox, HL2, Doom3 and Far Cry are all good "PC games that need beast-PC's to run) games. HL2 is the worst looking of hte bunch on the original Xbox though. So be forewarned.

I cannot recommend the 360 highly enough though. Some damn fine looking games on it. And the HL2 pack sounds like it will be worth it.

As for the shill-bashers, you guys need to get a life.
