I've played FS2Open before on numerous systems and never had this problem.

Current settings are the default with Turey's installer:

Basically it looks like the textures are going in and out of the mediaVPS....some things have extra detail, and some dont on the same ship. Engine glow seems to mess up frequently too.

Running FS2 on Windows 7 Pro 32bit with an Intel GMA3100 onboard video (*cringe*...I know) at 1152x864 (16bit). Trilinear texture filtering on.

I've had no issues with the default settings on Turey's installer in the past.

At any rate, you should select a debug build in the Launcher, run it, then post the fs2_open.log from your data folder here.

The first time I installed FSO, I used Turey's installer. Quite frankly, I found my installation much more intelligible after I learned how to do my own install without the installer. And really, it's pretty darn easy to do - Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. You'll also install exactly what you want to install, and you'll also learn how to make everything you put into the FS2 folder work properly. Turey's Installer is great for first-time users, but after that you really should learn to do a manual install. Hey, you'll learn something!

basically its like....blocks and graphics that cover the other graphics. its visible in that mission, but definitely in training mission 2 or 3 whenever the large installation is there.

1. 32-bit colours = win.
2. Intel graphics solutions suck hairy bollocks. End of discussion.
3. If, for some inhumane reason, you are forced to use Intel graphics solutions, make sure you have the latest possible drivers.
4. Related to the drivers, your OpenGL version is disturbingly old. While the theoretical minimum is 1.2, and you seem to have gotten the game to run, in general it is recommended to have at least version 2.0. And since OpenGL is included in the drivers, having the latest drivers is fun.

Edit: Also, that "graphics card" probably doesn't like MV_Advanced.

I'll try and track down a newer driver....32bit did look nicer but averaged way lower FPS....I'll probably have to run it on 1024x768x32bit on a friggin 1080p screen unless I find a low-wattage video card that can handle this nonsense....Dell recommends (to keep the same power-saving PSU and setup) either:

1. ATI HD 2400 Pro
2. ATI HD 3450
3. nVidia 9300 GE

None of them look all that amazing, but I guess I'll hit up the 3450 since its the newest of the lot. I'd love to try my 8600GTS but I'm fairly sure it would stress the PSU to kingdom come and I love its current efficiency.

The 8600 would actually handle it admirably and not have the driver related problems that the ATI cards currently have with FSO.

I'd go for the 9300, though personally a few extra for a 9400 won't kill you either.

Nonono....I mean the power supply that I ordered this dell with is a 280W 90%+ efficient green PSU. It has a video connector, but the current system's output requires about a 210W PSU. If I throw that video card in, it hits its limit. Those 3 low-end cards I mentioned before are all that it can really support :/

I'm more irritated that I'm locked into Dell's system drivers and can't update to Intel's newest one (November)

Yeah, before you try anything else, ditch MV_Advanced.  It manages to corrupt the hell out of my crappy old Radeon X300.

You should see a file named "MV_Advanced.vp" in your mediavps folder in your main FS2 directory.  Either move it completely out of your FS2 folder, or just delete it.

It's fine....I'm blaming the drivers, so I'll just play at 1024x768x32bit until the system gets a video card.

Still, MV_Advanced.vp is likely to butt-**** your "graphics card", so if possible, don't use it.
