I was flying the mission to capture some Cordi fighters and ran into a major issue with the AEM-6. It's suppose to be a heat-seeker with an effective range of 2500m, but it is acting as an aspect seeking missile and you have to be a lot closer than 2500m to get a lock. Anyone else run into this one?

Just peeked into the tables: "The AEM-6 is a dedicated anti engine subsystem weapon. Used to disable ships without dealing too much damage to the hull itself. Requires a lock on the engine."

Code: [Select]
$Homing: YES
  +Type: JAVELIN
  +Turn Time: 0.40
  +Min Lock Time: 0.5
  +Catch-up Pixels/Sec: 150
  +Catch-up Penalty: 5
  +Seeker Strength: 4

So "heat seeking" doesn't mean FreeSpace heat seeking. It's an unfortunate use of the term.

Maybe it should read "Javelin targeting system"?

Oh, or "Emissions Guidance System"? :P

Well, it still seems to have an issue with its range. I have never once seen it lock on at its supposed range. I always have to be much closer. Any thoughts on that?

Maybe they don't show their ass long enough for them to aquire lock at that range.

I suppose it's possible, but I can do a subsystem select on engines at that range, so...I dunno... As long as I know it's expected behavior, I guess...

I think the engines have to be in sight, not just targeted.

And of course those little buggers like to fly ass end away from you to shoot at you while dancing off to one side or another. Pain in the ass. Now if only I could figure out the right way to waste (or at least cripple) the Adiyasta (sp?) at the end of that mission. I suspect it has some effect on later missions if I can manage it.

Fly beneath the shield and shoot with all you have at the generator.

"Uh, Sir we can hear the explosion."
"No you can't, there is no air in space. Sound can't travel through a vacuum!"

You have two options.  Either shoot the engines with your anti-subsystem guns to disable it and I had the LSF Rance jump in and beam cannon the Adasya to death, or shoot the core reactor with your main guns to do terrible, terrible massive damage and blow it up.  If you (as Misuzu) blow up the reactor, later on you fly a mission as Crystal instead of Misuzu.  You get a different briefing and debrief and your ship is slightly more maneuverable thanks to Crystal's elf-like reflexes.

See what you're missing in #WoD and #Fsquest?

[07:57:32] <Caiaphas> inspired by HerraTohtori i built a supermaneuverable plane in ksp
[07:57:43] <Caiaphas> i just killed my pilots with a high-g maneuver
[07:58:19] <Caiaphas> apparently people can't take 20 gees for 5 continuous seconds
[08:00:11] <Caiaphas> the plane however performed admirably, and only crashed because it no longer had any guidance systems

The problem is, I never manage to get in range of it. Or if I do, I get shot all to hell by its escort fighters. And of course there aren't enough weapons to get something to shoot it from long range, even if I do pick the Caliburn or the Ray 3W variant (I still don't like the fast one. I agree with the dialog that the speed doesn't make up for the lack of protection) to give me something besides disabling weapons. Any thoughts?

Well that's news to me. :nervous:

I think that was after he disabled it. The LSF ship does jump in and shoot the enemy ship, but unless the enemy is disabled, it jumps out before it gets destroyed in mission.

You just have to be quick. Ignore the Sweepers, their weapons can't hurt you very much. Fly beneath the shield and destroy the reactor (that rotating star-thingy). Finish'd.

Then you must have a look at the shields. I've never had much problems destroying that Adasya.

I think somehow I always end up too far out to close with it quickly. Or maybe I should try using the default fighter for the mission. I don't know.

Uh, no.

If you have chosen the Ray E, you should make use of the better maneuverability and speed. You could simply outrun the Sweepers and hope that your wingmen draw the attention.

Just remember that you can advance the campaign just fine if you let the Adasya go. It's completely optional
