Yep you have it easy these days with the installer. Takes a lot of the work out of getting FS2 Open up and running. Use the wxLauncher to start any MOD.

The installer will install some mods as well.  Try rerunning it and have a look at the Custom or Complete options.

You need to start the game through a launcher.  The launcher will allow you to pick a mod.  The quality of the models will vary by mod, but if you want to play the original FS2 with the latest models, you want the MediaVPS2014 mod selected in your launcher.

Edit: Any launcher you use will have a tab labeled "mod" or "mods" that you have to click on.  You can also edit other options in the launcher.

There were some code changes regarding the briefing window FOV (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Game_settings.tbl#.24Briefing_Window_FOV:) recently.  Are you using 3.7.2RC4? If you aren't, try it.  If you are, try a recent nightly. If you're still having problems, could you post screenshots of the icon placement in-game and in the editor?

It's probably caused by another FOV-related bug that I reported back in August, which can be found here: http://scp.indiegames.us/mantis/view.php?id=3096 (http://scp.indiegames.us/mantis/view.php?id=3096)

as we can see on that images there are a big difrence between the editor and the game
did it's possible to fix this bug ?

3.7.2 RC4 is based on SVN revision 10997. This bug was fixed in SVN revision 11001 (https://svn.icculus.org/fs2open?view=rev&revision=11001). Try a recent nightly build.

did the the version 3.7.2 RC4 DEBUG can correct this problem ?

...No, because it's based on the exact same SVN revision (10997), and you need a version more recent than r11001.

I wilould like to have voices for my briefings and In Game Messages.
but i don't know where i can find how to do it :(

You need to either get people to record voices (which is time consuming) or you can enable TTS (text to speech).  IIRC this is only available on official releases, not nightly builds and its Windows only. If it is available you should have a checkbox in the launcher to enable it.

Have a read of this post (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=74636.0).  It's a guide on building ANI files, which I believe is what you need to create for command briefings.

I think you mean... background planet bitmaps.

For that, you NEED to have such a file, network full of such. in any case, you have to get the planet file in nice format... .dds for example.

Stuff your planet files into location \your_mod\data\effects

Later, you need a special table file to support your planet, it should be named something like yourmod-str.tbm in \your_mod\data\tables
inside you put something like this:

Code: [Select]
#begin
$Bitmap: yourplanetbitmap1
#end

...all.

P.S. I once said you should read the Wiki, and as i see, you haven't done this. Do it, it WILL help you answer a lot of questions.

Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

I can tell you right now that you're probably missing a major VP file (or it didn't download correctly, or something similar) to get that error.

That... is your "logs" folder from the FSO installer. That is not your fs2_open.log file. I'm really going to need you to read and understand this post (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.msg1180359#msg1180359) for me to be able to help you.

We sorted it out on Skype, but so anyone else coming along later with a similar problem knows what happened: ASW couldn't find the 3.6.12 MediaVPs... in this case, because Starpler's 3.6.12 MediaVPs were in a folder named "mediavps_3.6.12" instead of "mediavps_3612".
