!!!!!! THE TEXTURE IS LOW QUALITY BECAUSE I'M USING P3D DEMO!!!!!!!!!!
so take with a grain of salt please
alright, so much for my serious attempt at that newcommer price
as with everything i do the model is of course free to use and be changed by everybody as he sees fit, have fun

Not sure if the FS1 blue glows go well with the FS2 red/gold glows.
Might work better if all the blue were gold, or something.
But that's just me.

Yeah, change the blue, preferably either to gold or green.

Something about the geometry seems "off", too. Not sure what it is, but it doesn't quite scream "Vasudan" to me yet. Maybe if I see it from more angles.

Pretty extraordinary design for a vasudan corvette. Something like... Star Trek with vasudan influence? I'm very curious about final result and I must say I really like this texture scheme.

Star Trek with vasudan influence?

Yes, I see that too, it was niggling at me when I looked at it earlier, I knew I could see something in the design, but it just wasn't clicking. It seems so obvious now. It is quite a striking design.

You ought to have rotating submodels within the nacelles, right where the glows are.
Title: Re: WIP GVCv Mahal
Post by: fightermedic on July 22, 2013, 07:41:24 pm
there are 6 rotating submodels on the mesh
1 in each engine, 2 crystals were the beams are, and the 2 rings on the shieldgenerators

the general shape of the vessel is almost a square from above, so that gives it a not-all-out vasudan shape i think
as for colors, i think the thing is that with red blue and yellow you have the full color palette covered, and that just makes the whole ship scream COLORS!!!! RAINBOW!!!
and combined with the strong glows that give the thing a kind of comical look, but somehow i like it that way *shrug*

P.S.
my inspiration has not been star trek, you'd never guess it, believe me ;)

You can't show us the model in that 3D render display thingy, can you?

Hmmn, reminds me of some of the ships from Master of Orion 1 but when I checked out the game to see if I could spot it, nothing quite matched up. Maybe some of the purple ships were pretty close.

Someone else mentioned the fusion of FS1/FS2 glowy bits.  Might make a good Reconstruction Era corvette, maybe one of the Vasudans' first ventures into that category.  Something about that ship screams "developing technologies platform."

It might not have been intentional but the design certainly has a star trek nebular class vibe

Dammit you guys! You making me wanna resurrect that idea I had for a trek mod that had you flying Valkyries (http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyrie_class) and escorts...

I like your ship, fightermedic. The engines feeling way too big for me would be my only con.

actually, thinking of it, you could have guessed it by the name of the ship

(be warned, you'll never be able to unsee)
ever typed "lego spaceship" in google image search? it's amazing what you'll find (besides 30000000 pictures of star wars ships and serenity)

I like it, osiris school of zod design. And why not, us humans are all over the place stylistically.

(be warned, you'll never be able to unsee)

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but rather than wanting to unsee, I thought it was fantastic!

And so the reason for the name of the ship becomes clear.

Ever watch Mars Attacks! ? Imagine if in that scene where the Taj Mahal is destroyed, it instead transformed into a spaceship and started kicking ass!
Title: Re: WIP GVCv Mahal
Post by: fightermedic on July 23, 2013, 04:38:38 pm
i didn't mean it's bad, only that you'll never be able to see something else than the taj mahal when looking at the ship ;)
(i wonder what that women would think if she knew that one day people would name fictional spaceships in computer games after her :D )

the corvette in full action, beams ablaze:
pretty much complete now save for testing
not sure how long till release, i'm in the middle of exams (tomorrow's the next one  :banghead: )

In that shot it kinda reminds me of a Vasduan Defiant crossed with a Steamrunner class.

Best New zod ship category winner?
Title: Re: WIP GVCv Mahal

Shielded Corvette with beamz?
 :shaking:
with destroyable shieldgenerators (needs to be freded though) and exposed engines, and lower hull than a sobek, so vulnerable to beams
it should be a nightmare for any ship without beams though
oh, and the main beams have longer recharge, in total it's only 1.2 BVAS as both fire with 0.6 speed + they can more or less only fire forward
i don't think it's THAT overpowered, stronger than other corvettes sure, but then, it's supposed to be a next gen ship
should it prove to be too much, parameters can always be lowered by the one designing a mission with it

and thanks for the praise people, but i personally will declare this community to be a bunch of guys with no talent should i win anything else than that elusive newcomer prize..... (if there is going to be any competition that is, where are your models guys? 1/3 of the contest is over.... )
Title: Re: WIP GVCv Mahal

Well if I was to use it, I'd put my money on a shielded gunboat capable of massive fighter suppresion keeping it away from cap ships.
Yeah, that sounds cool with all that shield protection.. a nightmare for the player oh yeah... :D

No coment on the declaration, it's pretty much possible that we're all a bunch of guys without talent.

or maybe just lazy.

yea sure, it should scale down to a (big) gunboat's size rather nicely
i have done that myself with some cruisers in the past
it's seriously over the top turret wise for a gunboat though (talking about the sheer amount of 25 turrets, but those can always be made fire slower or some removed)
Title: Re: WIP GVCv Mahal
Post by: Luis Dias on July 26, 2013, 10:38:09 am
fighter suppression with a pair of BVAs with 0.6x speed? u mad?

E: Wait what? 25 fkin turrets? ROFLMAO

Even a Leviathan is probably much more deadly to fighters than this.

This is more like a small hit n run corvette against medium sized corvettes / convoys, etc., in a kind of TEI-like tactics. Quick warp-in of say four of these will probably instakill any corvette / cruiser before anyone could counter them. So kinda like a mini Sekr-team Zod ship.

Post by: fightermedic on July 26, 2013, 11:21:52 am
well, on a gunboat the beams would have to be changed to something else of course, but that's a matter of seconds
no idea how well the turrets will work in vanilla, as i have drastically changed turret strength in the mod i'm using and have not tested it with vanilla yet, but that too is easily changed
6 small beams + 16 flak turrets should be something different for example :D
(thinking of it, yea, changing the small turrets to flak is something i want to do for the release version intended at vanilla turrets)

anyway, i have added a faint (animated) effect to indicate the position of the shield, that is visible all the time, not only when the ship takes hits
opinions? too dim? still too visible? bad idea in general? (in that case though, it's simply a matter of removing one submodel to remove it)

This is the scariest thing I have seen in a while (in a good way) Love the model, I wonder what people will use it for.

feedback of any kind is most welcome

to the few of you who downloaded immediately after i put the download up: please do so again, i've fixed the glowmap, there have been some very ugly compression errors in the first one

There were also some bits around the nacelles that were missing textures, if you haven't already fixed them.

are you talking about the glass-trans texture?
i don't think there is much point in including it, since it's part of the media vps

I'm getting this warning in debug:
Code: [Select]
Couldn't open texture 'glass-trans'
referenced by model 'mahal.pof'

I have the mediavps installed so I don't know why that texture seems to be missing.

I... don't like it. :|

Sorry, but it's true.  The mix of blue, red, and yellow glows on the same ship kills it for me.  I'd much, much prefer if all of it was either red, or yellow, or blue.  Would it be possible to get a sort of preview with one solid color for the full ship, or is that impractical/not worth the effort?
