Title: Odeon.vp causing crash to desktop
Post by: Archaic on February 08, 2011, 11:32:48 pm
im running fsport in 3.6.10 (because thats the version of fsport i have)

mjn.mixael told me to install odeon.vp

awesome, i now have the fs opening play at the beggining of the game.

but, the cutscene imediately following the capture of mccarthy and rasputin crashes my game to desktop

the screen shows a random pattern of coloured pixels and plays a looping sound

Do you by chance run a Mac?

Also, 3.6.10 is not a version of FSPort, it's a version of FSO.  Try 3.6.12, or a recent build.

changing to 3.6.12 fixed the crash, but some missions just dont work

training 4 (the one with the support ships) epsilon wing does not disable all the engines and just sit there

the escort mission following the cutscene the gtsc whatever just sits in the subspace node

1) This seems to be a problem for some people.  Try disabling the engines yourself.

2) The GTSC Plato is supposed to be destroyed.  Try not doing such a good job. :p

:wtf: You shouldn't lose the Plato to the Vasudans. You should lose it to... something else.

The biggest issue I've always had with that mission: The Vasudans are supposed to be obstructing the Plato's path to the jump node, or at the least present a credible threat to the Plato's ability to get there. Yet the come in so far away away and behind the Plato that srsly, even if other events never happened, the Plato would still make it free and clear.

If it were up to me, I'd have the Vasudans jumping in either at or just the other side of the jump node. For credibility purposes.

Now THERE'S a mission I would love remade...

Half the time I destroy ALL enemy craft and have to wait for the Plato to self-destruct...

At least in my experience, the Shivans just about always destroyed the Plato in short order in the original FS1 version of the mission.  I feel like tweaking the FSPort version somewhat would make things much more playable, either by significantly upping the damage of Shivan bombs for that mission or adding in a self-destruct cue.

The best way to ensure the Plato`s destruction without using a self-destruct is by adding a wing of Basilisks that jump in out of position and then use good-secondary-time on them and load them out with Phoenix missiles.
