Title: Models in game! New video!
Post by: chief1983 on June 05, 2009, 01:03:45 am
That's right, we now have the very pretty X-wing in game (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,63624.0.html), along with a full map set for it.  It's our first model in game created by the new staff with a normal and shine map.  Also, I decided to try out FRAPS on my PC, and here's the result (http://swc.fs2downloads.com/movies/large_battle.mkv) (stream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pG9qE4lLE4)).  Get VLC if you can't play MKV files already.

Looks awesome Chief!
Love the sounds

Just in the nitpickers corner though: It looks like it starts out in a plane, is that intentional?

Yeah love the sounds yo :)

Only gripe I have is the blank background, other than that, awesome :D

A bit to dark, but nevertheless awesome.
Will ya change the speed of the fighters for release or will it stay at 250 as standard setting for the x-wing?

Looks very nice. Only thing, is it my imagination or does this title play faster then the old X-wing titles?
Still its a good speed, more like the battles we see in the movies.

Actually I was piloting the A-wing in that vid, it's one of the fastest fighters in the game.  Everything else is slower.  Also it's probably going to have its maneuverability nerfed slightly, I think that's just too responsive compared to most of the other ships.  Speeds may have to be trimmed back slightly as well, but we wanted to start high and then just come down as much as we have to.

Yeah it does start in a plane, I just made a quick mission with a bunch of wings facing each other and didn't feel like making it all spread out or anything.  Looks crazy from an observer's perspective though.

Holy sh*t!
Like the above post, its so Star Wars.
I think the speeds are perfect. We haven't seen how fast they really are compared to stationary objects, but when those TIES flew past on that head-to-head it was just.. beautiful.

Loving the streaming TIE engine sounds as well.

Reminds me of the first ingame test of a starfury ( TBP ) that was... 2001 ?

Hmm, and TBP just went final this last year.  That means we have about 8 years before FotG Final Release.  Should be a fun ride.

That's EXACTLY what I am afraid of.

By then it'll be three years till I'm thirty.

Hopefully my future wife won't mind me playing Star Wars video games. Of course I wouldn't have married her if she did. Would.

Eh.

That's not to say we won't be releasing anything until it's FINAL.  Ideally it would be an iterative development process, once we have enough in game to be taken seriously as a release we will likely do just that, and then hopefully development will quicken from there.  Getting over that first hump is one of the biggest challenges it seems.  Creating a good foundation for the game, that's what we have to do before we can really release anything.

That's TBP style, and it worked for as. Depending on what your definition of "worked" is.
