I'm sure that many of you have already guessed this but there's no way we'll make the originally planned 2011 release now. We had several issues earlier this year that slowed or stopped development in some areas which have caused the deadline to slip. However, I actually expected to not be as far into things as we are now once the slip occurred, so at least there is that :)
So we've prepared some stuff for this month, including a new trailer of the 'release 1' portion of the campaign, and 2 model dumps one of some of our current Shivan fighters and one of old models from previous Inferno builds over the last 5 years.
Release 1 Campaign Trailer:

2011 Model dump:
These are provided as development models and so some may still require POF data and none have tables included.

Model by FreespaceKing, it's still a wip though.
There will be a R2 campaign trailer once I have what I need to start making it, got plans for that one :)
Expect more updates in the eyecandy thread as more models get completed.

Thx, you probably just took a couple items off my TODO list ^^

There's already a high-poly Rakshasa. :p

There's already a high-poly Rakshasa. :p
Which that isn't so yeah :p
Luckily the Rakshasa isn't on our 'to do list' since there's no need to thanks to FSU :D
-
Awesome! The much anticipated model dump of these updated ships. Been waiting for this ;) Will replace a bunch of placeholders now on my end. Hope it's not too much trouble for someone to .pof models if neccesary, I can do all the tabling and stuff myself. Once again thanks, cheers up a dull and bad day quite a lot for me. :)
-
All the models are POFs, though some are really old and will need resmoothing.
There will be more dumped ships released at a later date, but these ones don't require specific maps or other things I can't give out right now.
-
****ing glorious. The trailer does nothing to satiate my eagerness to play this.
-
Alright thanks for explaining, Woomeister. I look forward to see those other ships released too, hopefully completing the gaps of ships I've been looking for, particularly Shivan and civilian/economic based structures. Will take a good look at each of these when I get home.
-
I hope that you still use Holler or something as EA super heavy bomber. Gagana is nice as heavy, but it isn't badass enough for super heavy class.
EDIT:
The dumped Amritaya is pure badass. I know that it's nowhere the quality of HTL Sathanas, but I think that she deserve to be upgraded to High poly level. This thing is like pure Shivan badassery essence.
The SOC Lyre is quite interesting design too.
As for the rest, it's like.... OMG MY EYES BLEED WTF? :), I hardly belive that couple years ago those were a quality models :)
EDIT2:
There is no link to shivan fighterpack.
BTW in trailer, when we see Vasudan fleet there is a scene from the back of the fleet (where Hashepsut is to the right 0:52) there is a tall big ship to the left that kinda reminds the Ancient destroyer from A-S War mod - is it the same ship model?

Ah sorry, link added
It's the original lower poly base model, the ASW version was heavily modified from the base model though.
-
It's the original lower poly base model, the ASW version was heavily modified from the base model though.
Do you plan to use ASW version? Coz ASW used some models from Inferno pack, so I don't see why this can't done in reverse way to save you some time.
-
Because we'd have to modify it to look like the original, they cut off the entire back end of the ship and added the ancient style engine part which wouldn't fit our Vasudan style.
-

...that would be my doing (the reason why its heavily modified at least, I didn't do any of the changes incoroproated into the final model). :P
But because I thought Ancients... -> TENTACLES! I chopped off the rear (from the modeldump model) and turned the supports into tentacles, and I don't think FSF ever saw the original before upgrading it and adding the ancient-style engine where I relocated the thruster points. (not that it would matter)
For all intents and purposes now, the two are entirely different ships. Though I guess I could ask FSF for the .blend of the upgrade version, which would indeed save time if we wanted a higher poly version in INF.
-
Well it might be possible to use that one as a base and just rebuild the back. Would be nice to upgrade it if they are willing :)

I did come across it once, and well, I like our tentacley version better. The engine 'mount' on the original makes little sense to me :P

How the hell did I not notice this until now! This has made my whole month! It's even got that super-sleek shark nosed Claymore I've been lusting after since 2006.
I will definitely be downloading this after work.

It's like an early Christmas gift, thanks a lot for this. :)

Another batch of current models that we use that we've decided to release seperately. This time some classic INFR1 Shivan ships mapped for us by mjn.mixael
-
They're looking great !
Random question : is it an actual model dump or are they ships that will also appear in nuINF ?
-
They will appear in the main release as well, they haven't been dumped.
-
Ooh, nice. *snags*
-
We released them as part of our agreement with mjm.mixael for his outstanding texture work.
-
i was thinking, might you have among your various models a few infos from models long past like the cabari, auriga or cernunnos?
-
We never used the cernunnos
The Cabari was dropped years ago and I think the last version of it was released at some point
The Auriga is still used
-
what was the cernunnos exactly?
-
It was an upscaled bomber made into a destroyer, kind of like the old Pylos model.
-
It was a backwards stretched Sehkmet with spikes extruded IIRC
-
It was an upscaled bomber made into a destroyer, kind of like the old Pylos model.
Wasn't that the Het-ka?
-
It was an upscaled bomber made into a destroyer, kind of like the old Pylos model.
Wasn't that the Het-ka?
Het-ka was made by the same method. Cernunnos is based on Sekhmet, Het-Ka on Osiris.
-
Yeah, the Het-ka, Pylos and original Gigas were made learning Truespace 1, many years ago :D
-
I think the Het-Ka would do well to get up-detailed.
-
Everytime we release assets, requests for nostalgic supercapital ships always come up. First impressions die hard, and in this case, become legacy.
R
-
Those things are pretty much abominations, people, D:
Back when nobody really knew what they were doing (except Dark).
At least that's the impression I get, I didn't actually witness it myself. :P
-
Yeah, seriously.

R
As far as Super Destroyers go, you've already made the HTL Nemesis and Odin, and replaced the Diablo-Class in its entirety with a new ship class.
I might have said it a long time ago but the original Diablo was hideous and I'm glad it's gone, and the same applies about the Het-Ka; either better off removed completely or have a different design. To me, the Nemesis was the only good-looking Super Destroyer in INFR1.
-
The Nemesis is a SUPER FENRIS.
-
On the plus side, R1 also gave us the Lindos, which is a really cool design even in its original low-poly form.
-
I actually like the Diablo and original Gigas. They will be in my mod (that is, if I can get the Diablo's shield mesh to work)
-
Good for you, your mod will have low poly, outdated, and possibly buggy models.
You must be very proud of yourself~!
Ok, they Diablo and Gigas are relatively safe as they've had enough exposure that any really game-breaking bugs with them *should* have been caught, but I'd still be careful. Make sure you actually know what you're doing when using old models, because chances are, whoever made it didn't, and thus you may need to reconvert, or do some general debugging on it.
-
The Nemesis is a SUPER FENRIS.
Pretty much, that's what it was designed to be.
On the plus side, R1 also gave us the Lindos, which is a really cool design even in its original low-poly form.
Don't know what I was thinking when I made that ship, weird that it became so popular :D
I actually like the Diablo and original Gigas. They will be in my mod (that is, if I can get the Diablo's shield mesh to work)
I don't mean the Gigas that was in R1. I meant the stretchy Sathanas version that came before it. That Gigas model was horrid though IMO compared to my last version. Can't wait to see that fully upgraded :)
-
I am using both. You only see the old Gigas from a distance though. There is a bug I have found with the Diablo with the shield mesh... I am going to try to do something to fix it though.
-
I guess that Lindos is popular due to it's unusual design. The amount of beams it mounts on the front was unheard of by the time it was released.
-
Yup. Unusual is often a good way to make your ship memorable and instantly recognizable. Asymmetrical also gives it an instant cool factor.
-
I like the Lindos as well, it will be in part 3 of LoS.
-
it will be in part 3 of LoS.
Thanks for the useless information.
Seriously bro, stop trying to hardsell the sequel of the sequel of your not-yet-released and probably doomed-to-fail megamashupmod.
In another mod's forum, no less.
Seriously, stop mucking up our threads with this trash. You're just coming off as an annoying dunce that thinks they're hot ****. Make a thread for your own mod. Do it. May I direct your attention here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?board=124.0). I'm pretty sure people will be delighted to discuss the prospects of your rather...interesting project.
-
Okay fine, no more of that stuff until I releae the demo.
-
Nicely said, Droid. I always admire you for saying the hard stuff that others won't.
But with that said, I encourage Damar and all clueless newbs to try and make their pet projects a reality. Many times we learn better through failure than through accomplishments. I also wish to point all DamarWoultAzardleaders to the thread where a previously unknown member remade the Seth using his own ingenuity w/o asking all those stupid questions that could simply be answered through a forum or a wiki search. Take that person as a quintessent model that you derps ought to follow.

Can you check the moddb link - I tried to download the pack and it claim that there is no server, nor mirrior availabe :(
-
moddb link is working for me.
-
Would it be possible to mirror it somwhere, like freespacemods.net. DUnno why but ModDB still tells me that there is no Server for that file :(
-
I was just on ModDB trying to download your outtakes pack (the one you link to here) and for some reason my system was stopping me and telling me the download was unsafe. Could be a false alarm but thought I'd let you know in case its been tampered with or something.
(Apologies for posting to such an old thread; assumed you'd want to keep it in this one).
-
What was the Gargant supposed to be?
-
Big, Bad and Un-killable.
-
Scary big. Was there ever a screenshot comparing it to the Sathanas?
-
Wasn't it supposed to be some kind of Shivan mothership?
-
You'd barely notice a Sathanas in a screenshot comparison to the Gargant. BTW, it was classified as a "Hive" ship, which is why its named SH Gargant.
-
What would be the function of a "hive"?
-
Growing larvae and making space honey, naturally.
-
Let me rephrase that then...what is the purpose of the Shivan Gargant?
-
To be a huge ship. Honestly that's about a concrete an answer as you're going to get. The Hive designation is just what the Terrans (and Vasudans) designate it as, just like "Juggernaut" for SJ Sathanas.
What's the purpose of a Sathanas?
What's the purpose of a SF Scorpion?
You can infer or guess the role it plays for the Shivans but how sure are you?
-
More to the point, the Gargant was intended to be a set-piece, certainly not something that the player could ever remotely damage on their own.
-
Since it was so gigantic and from the sound of it defacto invulnerable...was the GTVA going to do anything other than run away when it showed up? If you can tell, what was the original plot plan for the Gargant?
-
Wasn't that what the Icanus was for?
-
The Icanus was for taking down the Gigas.
-
Hey, five months ago, my HTL Raguel is done, with help from Betrayal. I can guess I can include it here?
-
Hey, five months ago, my HTL Raguel is done, with help from Betrayal. I can guess I can include it here?
It's not Inferno-related model anymore. Low-poly version was. Ours isn't.
Consider it as something new, but created using old model from INF as a reference. Especially when it was modelled from scratch, without parts of original model.
-
Then, I guess my HTL Raguel upgrade is nothing more than just an improvement of the INF model dump version of it.
-

Enter it and blow it up from the inside like that dyson sphere in Freelancer, obviously :D

Close, you were going to do that to the thing the Gargant was going to be fighting in the last 2 missions....
We had plans to include the Gargant in the current campaign, but the engine didn't like what we had planned so that had to be shelved.
-
Since it's not part of the campaign, can you say what the Gargant was going to be fighting? That sounds interesting.
-
The Gargant doesn't fight, it dominates. :D
-
The Gargant doesn't fight, it dominates. :D
It eradicates :P
-
The Gargant doesn't need to fight. It's very presence inspires its enemies to despair and commit suicide. :D
-
Since it's not part of the campaign, can you say what the Gargant was going to be fighting? That sounds interesting.
An Ancient Mothership.
It didn't work out very well because the ai would keep crashing into the walls no matter how big the interior was. The Notus bomber was specifically for that mission.
-

What exactly was the problem; the Gargant and other ship was too big for the engine to handle?

I think it was more likely
It didn't work out very well because the ai would keep crashing into the walls no matter how big the interior was.
-
I'm trying to understand what you're saying (my fault not yours):
So you'd be in a big room inside the Gargant/Ancient mothership and enemy fighters would try to stop you from getting to the ship's core?
-
So you'd be in a big room inside the Ancient mothership and enemy fighters would try to stop you from getting to the ship's core?
Pretty much. The Ai instead of trying to stop you decided ramming the walls until they die was the better option however. This included your wingmen even if the walls were 10km away from your current position.
-
Yeah, it's a safe bet that the Descent mod I always hoped that someone would attempt would have to be multiplayer-only. :p

Would it be alright if I offer a suggestion? It's your campaign and I'm not an expert FREDDer or anything; I'm just a fan who would really like to see the Gargant and this other super supership someday.
-
An Ancient Mothership. = AJ Androgeos? Or is there something bigger and more OP?
-

We wanted to use the Gargant near the end of the 2nd release of the current mod as a special mission, but due to its low polyness we would of required using it in a nebula. FSOpen doesn't like large ships inside nebulas (least when we tested it) so it was too glitchy to use.

150km, no turrets and really low poly. (250-300ish) We don't have the model anymore so don't ask for it. The Gargant would be fighting it from the outside and so would be the Icanus, though not together as allies.
-

What I was going to suggest would be to mount capital turrets on the inside of these supership rooms. You would have to fly your bomber through a sort of 'laser grid'. That's one possibility to not have to use problematic enemy fighters.
-

It doesn't? Er, didn't? Would those have been these long-fixed bugs (http://scp.indiegames.us/mantis/view.php?id=3012), by chance?
-
Not sure, the model randomly vanishes so that it is invisible from certain angles though you can still collide with it. It only did that in nebula's though. It was a long while ago that I tried it so it may work now, I'll see if I can test it this week.
-

Yes, that's one of the bugs from the linked Mantis issue.
-
Huh? Ancient Mothership that is even bigger than Gargant? How did they manage to build something like this if Shivans made them nearly extinct and without Shivans notice this?
I also thought that Ancients were no longer part of Inferno campaign and they would be the part of Ancient addon campaign (if it will ever be released)? Was this Ancient vs. Gargant idea was for part two of the first release?
Speaking of very old ideas I remember there was long ago the concept of other all-powerful race similar to Shivans, but there was only one screenshot.
Can you share was was their story and role in Inferno?
Now the hard question that no one asked for long time (I bet everyone just assume Inferno will never be release again or not before 2020 :) ):
What is the progress on Inferno release 2 and INF:Alliance 2?
-
Wonder why the Ancients would fight the GTVA, and to the point of the GTVA having to pull an "enemy of my enemy" with the Shivans.
-
I actually do think an Ancient return was planned. I wonder if V ever had any concept art...
What is the progress on Inferno release 2 and INF:Alliance 2?
Inferno urgently needs a mission designer.
-
I also thought that Ancients were no longer part of Inferno campaign and they would be the part of Ancient addon campaign (if it will ever be released)? Was this Ancient vs. Gargant idea was for part two of the first release?
Yes this would of been R4 of the original R1 not the current Nostos version were they aren't featured at all.
Speaking of very old ideas I remember there was long ago the concept of other all-powerful race similar to Shivans, but there was only one screenshot.
Can you share was was their story and role in Inferno?
Heh I can't even remember what those were called now, but the idea for those is they are the ones that 'hold the Shivans back' when it was necessary.
What is the progress on Inferno release 2 and INF:Alliance 2?
We lost the last full time mission designer a few weeks ago so for now I'm planning to come out of retirement and complete the next release myself. I was going to be starting in the next few weeks but we had a death in the family this morning so it may take a while longer than I originally planned.
We might be going more episodic than originally planned depending on how fast the model team can get back together and finish the last things I need. If so the first release will probably be next year if I get the last models on time, though I won't be holding myself to that at this point in time.
Completion of the entire project still requires some major models to be completed such as the Gigas, Icanus and our Vasudan flagship but I can make do with the minor craft providing I get the last ch1 ships completed.
INFA2 will depend on how much interest there is at the time if I'm still working alone on this since the main campaign is around 60 missions already so doing another one solo is a lot of work. There will be some INFA elements in later parts of the campaign even if INFA2 is cancelled so it won't be scrubbed entirely.
-
I'm really sorry to hear that. Condolences and best wishes.
-
To make sure I understand the terms correctly:
"Nostos" refers to the currently in progress remake of the original Inferno, whereas "release 2" was originally going to be the sequel to the old Inferno?
-
Yes, since there was more confusion leaving it as just plain 'Inferno'
-

The Gargant seems to be behaving itself now in nebula anyway. I tested it this afternoon.

Since it was retail FS2 most likely.
-
I read something a while back while searching the forum on the Gargant...is it true that the Icanus' primary cannon would only do about 1% damage to the Gargant? I just read the wiki entry on the Icanus and its main weapon was designed to crack planets.
-
1% damage to one of its turrets.
-

Btw, this was fixed right at the end of MediaVPs_2014 Beta phase, when HTL Sathanas was having similar problems. Nowadays all big ships should work with nebulas regardless of size.
-
1% damage to one of its turrets.
It's a good thing the Gargant didn't make it to Sol and core GTVA systems then huh?
-
The Gargant is still in development.
-
The Gargant is still in development.
No it's not, the model hasn't been touched since the early post R1 days. It still works in FSOpen fine though.
But there's no way we'll get a HTL of that when we don't have anyone working on the Gigas which is more important.
