Title: Insert long stream of swear words here
Post by: Cobra on November 08, 2014, 03:34:41 am
Okay, so

I have been stuck on the Fight for Earth mission in Nexus for WEEKS. Nothing I do works. I've parked my fleet kilometers away from the Entity gate, the better to pound the daylights out of whatever pops in before their shields come up.

Yet I invariably lose the majority of my forces, or for some stupid reason they decide to get stupid and run right into the ****ing wormhole. Or the Noah ships pop in and unleash a barrage of missiles that three wings of fighters each for each ship can't stop and obliterate half my fleet in a single volley. After about three or four tries a day I just quit because I am so tired of having to redo the loadout I want on every single ship.

Anyone here actually beaten this ****ing heap? The rest of the game is fun up until this point. It's giving me headaches at how rage-inducing this thing is.

All non-critical mission assets (X must survive) are expendable. This is the "Final Boss Fight".

If this is the mission I think it is, the one that's burned in my memory from the number of times it's kicked my space-butt, then I'll share my strategy:

Lots of anti-armor artillery missiles. I can't remember what they're called specifically, but load up on them.
Memorize the timing of the enemy ships entering through the wormhole.
Memorize the amount of time it takes your missiles to get to the wormhole.
Force-fire before the enemies arrive so that your nukes hit right after they arrive but before their shields go up. What doesn't die, should be weak enough to mop up.

If you're speaking of a different mission, or this tactic doesn't work, then idk.

Nexus is really ****ty at making you comfortable with losing assets, though. Even losing a single subsystem is a significant, permanent setback.

My strategy has always been to use shield draining normal weapons and then switch to rapid, mass fire tactics (i.e. plasma weapons) At least two ships to a hostile. Didn't have to worry about ammo, and it worked pretty damn well up until this point. Hell, the only ship that still has an Energy Skeeter is the Angelwing.

I don't recall having big issues with Nexus.
Then again, I don't recall what I did for the loadout and tactics.
