I'll try a format & reinstall of vista tomorrow (been meaning to do it any way).  Fresh install of Catalyst 10.2 with no preceding drivers and no chance of lingering corruption.  and I'll do a fresh install of fso in a separate directory with the most recent nightly builds and mediavps (plus the shaders you linked) but nothing else.

I think that would be as "pure" as I could get it...

I'd like to get shaders working for me... been a bit of a thorn in my side for a while.  So i'm willing to shed a little of my own blood to make sure I did all I could to make that annoyance go away.

Fresh install of vista, fresh install of catalyst 10.2, fresh install of FSO INF_SSE2-20101108_r6714 with Mediavps_3612 with the shaders you provided in a completely new folder.  No other mods.  Same settings as before.

No change.

I... don't want to speak on subjects I admittedly have only a cursory knowledge of... I'm a computer repair tech, yes, but that implies highly generalized computer knowledge with little knowledge of specifics.  However, I was under the impression that the Radeon X1xxx series started with the Radeon X1300 and ended with the Radeon X1950 (all based on the R5xx series designs).  Isn't the X1250 a different design (RS690) from *after* the X1950?  One designed for low-budget integrated solutions?  Course for all I know that wouldn't even matter.

Any way... log incoming.  Let me know if you think of anything else for me to try.

Yeah, you're right. Still, I would have thought the X1950 to be capable of at least the same performance as the 1250.
