THe SCP team will release an "official" build by May 9th.
Just in time for me to go to E3 and brag about you guys :)
There. I stepped in it. I made it public.
:)
-
uhoh,
uh, yeah, 3.6 guys.
rejoyce.
-
HOORAYS!!!!
so you have all the bugs squashed?
-
not realy
-
they just got tired of waiting, like us
-
-
Just show it with the caveat that it's still a work in progress. Otherwise...:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Just remember, there no such thing as bad publicity.
-
Hooray! I figure that enough of the bugs will be squashed to make it playable for most people. Then, time to get on to the cool stuff, like new features, graphical improvements and so forth.
-
I do hope the bug squashing keeps progressing, and pending the situation with the FS licence, we can make this into something big and public. :)
-
Holy POOP!!!! You guys are taking this sucka to E3?!
I just wet myself.
I think you probably just kick started all the coders and testers into overdrive to squash those bugs!!!
Oh, and I'd love to see what other developers and programmers think of the SCP and all thats been done to the game since it originally came out.
-
This news requires no less then all three of my thumbs to be raised: :yes::yes:
-
Forget the thumbs.. get your big toes up!
-
O_O
o_O
O_o
3.6 is coming.........
Remembers all the features that were supposed to be delayed till AFTER 3.6
Quote from Griff from RedvsBlue.com;
"SON OF A *****"

If you're gonna show it off at E3, make sure to take along as many high-poly ships as possible. Mebbe you could convince Venom to lend you his Ezchiel, too :)
-
...and Inquisitor takes a step closer to the edge....
:D
I love when these things get made public and you debate if you should or shouldn't and you weigh the advantages and the disadvantages. Oh I know! :D
Good luck and I look forward to it!
-
Excellent news! Good luck at E3, and I hope you get the attention you deserve for all the hard work. :)
-
GL ppl you deserve all the credits there
-
 Looking forward to playing the main campaign again....haven't done that since glowmapping was new.:D
-
*needs to rework the hi-poly Anuket for this one*
-
Excellent news
I really need to start learning modelling. I'd really like to create a high-poly ship or two.
-
use my thrusters!

there are dozens of ships. we need all the help we can get.
-
Sweet. Not only is it in time for E3, it's just days before my graduation! Great present;)

*wonders if he's helping or hindering*
Actually I'm not as crazy as I may seem. I wanted to learn how to use LithUnwrap and I needed a model that would be easy to map to learn on :D
-
Everyone has to start somewhere
-
Thing is that's not my first model :) I can model. I just can't texture :D
-
Oh man...E3?! Holy crap, where the hell did you guys get that idea? Is it just me, or could this be like a Half-Life MOD...but instead for FS. Wow...anyway, I hope you guys get your deserved attention. Make us stand out! P1MP :thepimp:
-
Well, I am going on business (see sig). I figured a SCP build could tag along ;)
-
I was wondering if you could already present some of the post 3.6 features - with screenshots saying: IN PROGRESS, or even run a build using something as breathtaking as the environment build.
BTW this should defenitly use the new game material we have: LS weapon effects, LS background, LS Suns - Bobbau/LS/Turambar thrusters, ect. ect.
If Omniscaper has the rights or can get them you could show off the very high-poly/extreme-texture Star Trek models.
Suma, summarium: This is wonderfull news, and THANK YOU for taking FS_Open to the Public.
-
*Suggests as news post*
-
I thought I would never see this day.
3.6 NEVER FORGET
-
Feel free to use any screenshots that can be found here (http://www.penguinbomb.com/lightspeed/)
some of them are pretty nice :)
-
Congrats.
Good luck at E3 Quiz didn't realise you were up to somethin ;)
P!mp teh lore too eh?
Have fun ;p
-
Flaser: Well, most of the in progress builds, most of Lighty's stuff, that pretty much covers "3.6 preview" :)
-
How about one of the master FREDers cook up a demo mission where capships carve each other up and stuff that shows off lots of the new eye-candy if nothing else.
-
Inquisitor, be SURE to show off the new Echeziel and KARMA's Fenris. Make people think all our ships are like that :drevil: :drevil:
Oh, and Lightspeed new Nebuas and planets, the new thrusters, and shinemapping.
Might as well put our best side forward...
-
I am sure Nico would be willing to let you show off his work at E3. :)
-
Dear god................
I am....... going to take some time of to grasp the coolness of this situation.
Aye.
-
Pshh, the Freespace2 scp is going to totally BLOW AWAY all the other crap at E3!
-
Heh.
Not sure my laptop can do the SCP proper justice, so, might have to rely on screenies :)
Anywho, like i said, I have nothing formal scheduled for the SCP, but i will definitely be dropping hints and poking at various people to have a look ;)
-
If you are serious about E3 make sure you get a build with Bob's env mapping to take over.
-
maybe you could show off something like the trailer Singh posted in the hard light forum?
-
Hey. I fixed my Hi-Poly Anuket. It's at 3500 polies, so it's no longer a massive behemoth. :3 And it has the other LODs and stuff. All good. :3
-
Nice one Raa. Release the model and you might see what I promised you :)
-
Good Luck ;) @ E3. Make us Proud :D

Fiiiiiiixxx ittttttt! ;)

CAN THIS PLEASE BE HIGHLIGHTED!!!!!!!
-
well considering there isn't a flashy picture to go along with it AND its not completly released yet.
no
-
Shouldnt we be thinking of putting up HOTU freespace2 again, I mean if people are interested, how are they going to get freespace?? Unless you can still buy it:)

Just the turrets, mainly, but I think some UVing may be needed. :doubt: Oh well. I'll have time come summer.
-
Well, the storage facility on the bottom is shaped kinda funny.
-
Idiosyncrasy of Vasudan Design. ;)
-
RT: of course I am serious ;)
Plane is booked, hotel is booked, passes are in hand. I have some MaxGaming biz to conduct, but, I intend to brag SCP up :)
-
and theres alot to brag about ;7

Booth girls+getting Drunk+games=E3
I think that sums E3

Inquisitor - print up a bunch of HLP cards to hand out - you know, URL, etc. ;)
-
Give me a template, I can try :)
-
Erk. I'm terrible at that kind of design. Any takers?

by my count you have little over 30mins, best not disappoint ;)
-
There's still a little over eight hours going by Pacific Time.
-
there's a bit of last minut bug fixing going on, but I have relegated not to touch CVS untill a few days after 3.6 is out, I have a bad habit of makeing undocumented quck close shortcuts inadvertantly.
-
well here's basically the last bug in OpenGL that needs to be fixed. Its 730pm and i haven't had the chance to look at the code yet

What mission is that in? I haven't seen that problem yet. Are you using -jpgtga and the new media VPs?
-
im using jpg tga, but the media vps aren't there.
fixed: the second color wasn't black
-
so, did you guys get it out in time?
-
hold your horses, its still sunday where i am
we have a test build going around in internal and there's one more bug to fix before we can certify it as finished
-
There's still one hour left Pacific Time. Try to get it out before it's past midnight in Alaska eh?
-
And I don;t actually get on any airplanes till Tuesday morning, about 5am EST ;)
-
we should really pick a time ot be Freespace Standard Time (FST) to reduce the confusion, we'll have a poll as to which time zone or something. My vote's on EST
-
I vote for US central time!
-
i vote for GMT. Most people know what their timezone is compared to GMT, but not everyone knows what EST or US Central time is.
GMT+1 would be easiest for me of course, but it wouldn't make much sense to others. GMT +-0 seems tge best for everyone.
-

no, not most people. you do, obviously because you're just one hour off.

Agreed. I always have trouble calculating timezones, but GTM is easy. To me at least, living at GMT +2 :)
-

I'm at GMT +2 as well, but since I have relatives all over the US, I know what the time diff is.
-
yeah, EST is GMT-6 or something, but US central, well, dunno. That, and what is easier, looking up what the difference between GMT and some other timezone is, and then doing the math, or simply saying GMT.
-

Sounds like someone's still annoyed that Washington didn't get the meridian :D
Go with GMT if you need to pick a standard time. It's the only one that makes sense especially considering that most people not in America figure out EST by simply subtracting 5 from GMT anyway.
-
So when is this getting released?
-
uhm.....yesterday ?
-
If it was released yesterday...where is it?
-
in the SCP internal
-
But that's not where all the little people can play *runs around breaking things and crying*
-
Aye, out with it already!
I want to put a shiny new 3.6 executeable in my FSSCP folder with my shiny new 3.6 MediaVP!
-
Speaking of that are there any loading freezes in 3.6??
Cause, There's so much it has to go through that it most of the time freezes
-
Um, how do you know it freezes? I haven't seen a copy of it available yet..
-
there's one crash in opengl, that we want to fix. i think its driver related since it happens to me and not to taylor
-

I was asking if 3.6 freezes when loading, if anything has been fixed or something
-
Did you catch that thing in the last build available where in OpenGL the flashing lights on.... whatever the first fighter to display in the tech room is, will create white squares instead of the coloured lights?
-

I use Direct 3D if you were talking to me
-
EST is GMT -5...thats fairly easy...
Use GMT, makes the most sense...
-

You need any more people to try and repeat the problem? See if you can find any common ground?
-

Ok then, sorry ;)

I don't get this one either. Don't suppose you are using an ATI card by any chance? PhReAk seems to be getting something similar to this as well.
-
Yeah, an ATi Radeon9800XT
-

Do me a favor and run in a different color depth (in the game). If you are running in 16bit now try 32bit, 32bit->16bit. Also, what color depth is your desktop? I don't expect it to work any different but it would help to rule some things out.
-
Desktop + Game in 32bit = White Squares
Desktop 32bit, Game 16bit = White Squares
Desktop 16Bit, Game 16bit = .. guess?
Desktop 16bit, Game 32bit = Fourth time in a row...
-
t minus 6 hours and counting ;)
-
Oh, do I have a funny screeny for you guys...
But I will say it involves explosions...
tomorrow.
-

You could use the internal build and not run it in OpenGL. :)
-
so, then...no?
-
ok there is ONE MORE BUG LEFT!!!1
it seems that nebula poofs in OpenGL are a bit bright. other than that, everything runs poifect
(http://www.penguinbomb.com/phreak/bright_neb.jpg)
-
Squash it and release!!!!!!!!
-
it seems that nebula poofs in OpenGL are a bit bright. other than that, everything runs poifect
That is pretty much what the nebula's look like for me with the latest public build. I usually can barely see my HUD. I am running it under DirectX.
-
what's up with those horrible pixels in that OGL nebula screenshot phreak? Does OpenGL not rescale with bilinear filtering?
-
the poof has a 256x256 tex and its taking up the entire screen, not to mention the lighting is making it worse
-
Inquisitor is likely to be at the Max Gaming Technologies. LLC, right?
-
So does 3.6 support the speech option
-
yes it does
-

still, it should be blurry as hell then but not pixelated. At least it would be like that in D3D.
-
Sweet!!!
:)
-

You just answered yourself. Whereas D3D is prone to blurring textures of insufficient resolution, OGL occasionally pixelates them instead. I forget which instances trigger one or the other.
-
I have this annoying problem in OGL where planets, explosions, and trails all have the black edges around them. :blah:
I'll post screenies when I get home. But they usually show as a triangle of the lower left half, and do it for everything from explosions to little particles. This is in all 3 of Bob's newest environment builds tho, so that may be the problem? GF2 MX here.
-
Hmm... So I guess Lightspeed was right about making definate dates is bad luck :p
-
As if Half Life 2 wasn't enough evidence for you...
-
 Why does everyone think Inqui meant May 9th, 2004?
;)
-
well bob hasnt fixed the radeon 9000 not-so-shiny-shines bug and i wont except 3.6 as a build untill they fix it
-
it's been fixed for a bit now. i have a 9000 and i see specular just fine.
-
OK, I was somewhat away for about 2 weeks (PC was in a coma for 6 days, left 4 days later to visit Mom, came back 5 days later) so I'm kinda outa touch atm, but what happenned to 3.6? With E3 passed AFAIK, there is obviously less incentive to get it out for a specific deadline, but with Bob making strides in decals & env mapping on his own personal builds, its obvious that the code freeze has begun to thaw a little on the surface. Has the answer to the question "when is 3.6 coming out" returned to the old standbys of "soon" or "when its ready", or has a new projected completion time been established... like, by the end of the month (Freespace Standard Time)?
Sorry for the spanish inquisition & all. I would have sprung for the bright lights & polygraph machines but like y'all, I'm on a budget.
Later!
-
there is a build made, were currently packageing stuff up mostly, trying to figure wich files need to go with it, configureing the installer, ect...
any of the builds around the begining of may is basicly what 3.6 is going to look like. there were a few OGL bugs that held things up for a day or two.
-
So we should be expecting it any minute.... right? :nervous:
