Overwatch: Blizzard's Team Fortress-like
http://eu.battle.net/overwatch/en/

There's not a whole lot besides two really pretty trailers, yet, but it looks like it could be extremely interesting. Seriously, those trailers though:

Re: Overwatch: Blizzard's Team Fortress-like
Blizzard is really good at trailers.

They're slightly less good at games.  I'm getting a really powerful MOBA vibe from it, but unless they do something significantly different from League or DOTA it's not going to be particularly noteworthy.

EDIT: Upon watching the gameplay video as well, it looks like it's trying to be TF2 and something like Smite all at once.  Not sure how it's going to turn out.

Blizzard hasn't made a good game since Warcraft 3.  No reason to expect this'll be any better than the stuff they've made since.

I haven't played so I can't comment with certainty.  Wasn't Diablo 3 at least arguably good?

Re: Overwatch: Blizzard's Team Fortress-like
I didn't think so.  It was basically Diablo 2 with 3d graphics and more grind.  I couldn't even muster up the will to finish it on normal.  Quit before the last boss fight and never felt the desire to start it up again.

Blizzard managed to out-pixar Pixar in the cinematic trailer.

They should really start making movies.

They could seriously nail this and I'd watch anything they did

As for their games? I enjoy them. They're not bad games and I get my money's worth

Re: Overwatch: Blizzard's Team Fortress-like
Diablo 3 wasn't as replayable as 2, I played through Diablo 3 once and then it was added to The Pile©, but Diablo 2 lasted several playthroughs.

That said, I also would happily watch a movie by them if they made one.

Anyone been playing this?  I wasn't terribly interested but I've been watching some gameplay and it looks pretty interesting.

I've been playing it for about 2 hours now. It's really good.

Somehow that Trailer reminds me of those silly  tv shows from the 80s/90s where everyone was shooting guns like crazy but ... guess what? No one ever gets hit! Ever! lol ;-)

It's really, incredibly fun, but it's...you know how shooters have like progression and unlocks and stuff? Overwatch doesn't believe in that.

That works for me personally but the critics are wondering.

Re: Overwatch: Blizzard's Team Fortress-like
What fascinates me is that Overwatch completely deemphasizes killcounts or kill/death ratios. That's not to say that those are meaningless, this is an FPS after all and I would imagine that it is a tad difficult to play it without clicking on heads until they fall down, but games aren't won or lost based on how good you are at killing. Rather, they are won or lost based on how good you and your team are at reading the battlefield and choosing the right counters and spots for your supers, which I find makes the game really appealing (Destiny's PvP, at least in some of its modes, operates on the same principle, even if it celebrates kills and their counting much more)

Well like TF2 basically :P I'm glad they took the same kind of concept

Re: Overwatch: Blizzard's Team Fortress-like
Yes, but TF2's characters are all different takes on the concept of a shootyman (Except, arguably, for the medic). Overwatch's roster, while all individually capable of making kills, strongly emphasizes different roles; There is no TF2 equivalent to the role Zenyatta or Lucio play in OW.

Yeah it was only after I happened to see some character guide vids that my interest was piqued.

Re: Overwatch: Blizzard's Team Fortress-like
This looks a lot like DOTA implemented as a FPS.

Re: Overwatch: Blizzard's Team Fortress-like
Picked it up yesterday and dipped my toe in, only tried some PVE to get my sea legs but I can see the potential.  Very similar to TF2 but the complexity of the classes add a lot of dynamism.
