Title: Morrowind
Post by: redsniper on November 30, 2007, 04:43:43 pm
I think Oblivion is lame and boring. I love Neverwinter Nights. Would it be worth my while to try Morrowind?

The thing that puts me off with Oblivion is that it seems watered down (which I suppose it is since there's a 360 version). AFAIK Morrowind is a bit deeper what with having different skills for a dagger and a longsword or letting you wear multiple layers of clothing. So, is Morrowind better than Oblivion? if so, how much better?

The two big problems (Not counting the fact that the TES team doesn't actually patch it) with Oblivion is that it was made for the console-tards, and it needs to be modded because it was never finished.

I recommend:
Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.
wpz_inv - Dark UI version.
Dark UI.
Expanded Hotkeys & Spell Delete.

There are more, but I'm not listed all of the mods I use.

---------------------------------------------------

As for Morrowind.... It has a better storyline, better dialogue, more usable land, non-nerfed leveled lists, and thousands upon thousands of good mods. But it isn't as fast-paced as Oblivion.

I'd recommend searching for videos of the gameplay before deciding.

If you do get it, download Vibrant Morrowind.

No, it would not be worth it to try Morrowind.  Both games are sheer garbage Out of the Box.  Either way you're looking at a bucketload of finding and downloading the Mods neccessary to make up for the game's huge fundamental design flaws.  If you're gonna spend the effort, might as well do it on the prettier one that has a bad combat system instead of the ugly one with the worst combat system ever designed.

The title of Worst Combat System Ever Designed most certainly belongs to Gladius.

I'll just stick to NWN I guess.

copy-pasted from the other Morrowind thread:

In the future this will help you a lot in getting around, finding X, doing Y, and doing it with Z.

I've just recently started Oblivion, and I'm not thrilled by all the changes (why can't I wear something below or on top of my armor?), and I'm too old to be taken in by pretty graphics.

Back in Vardenfell on the isle of Morrowind, I wouldn't take a step though without installing a couple of mods :

Cosmetic mods to make it pretty

-Animal Realism: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=24
Stops rats and other animals from suicidally attacking you all the time - they will only attack if they think they can win/eat.
-Morrowind Enhanced: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2576
Adds a bunch of crafting and other fun things to the game. Every wanted to smith your own sword?

I'm playing through Morrowind slowly now, when I find the time, and so far I've loved it.  Plus you can get the game and both expansion packs for $20.  And download those files listed above, they really make the world look better and such.
