Idk, i didn't do it.
Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

uh.. sorry, it seems that with my images it doesn't work, I put the flags but the image doesn't show, so I made the image sharing page to scale it down to 1024x768 so It would fit.

The Lucifer fires its beams which used to not be beams, and the Galatea goes boom?

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Shivan super lasers were originally not beam weapons, just an invisible laser with a really long trail.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
They were pretty ugly up close, tbh, but that's only because I was slinging them around from my Herc, and the lasers aren't meant to be fired by fighters.

They are certainly much more powerful than your standard beam though.  :)

Re: A celebration of Freespace
If I recall correctly, they're somewhere near an LRed in terms of damage, but they have very long range.
Player Mounted, and LRed is probably better though (since you can spam it with little to no fire delay, and has infinite range).

Re: A celebration of Freespace
However, while the Shivan Super Laser takes time to get to the target, its damage is applied all at once, while a beam takes time to inflict all its damage, allowing the target to move out of the way (rarely).

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Definitely not! A cruiser up moves to slowly, and anything less than one is as good as dead even as a glancing hit!

Personally I'll take the Shivan Laser over the beam . . . beams just leave me blinded.  :(

The SSL is actually above the LRed in terms of sustained damage / second IIRC, but you're right about beam spamming on fighters with cheats.  One thing though, beams do not have infinite range, they pretty much end at ~30000 meters (unless defined differently in the table).

The SSLs are also very good anti-subsystem weapons. When used properly, A Lucifer can destroy a Colossus without fire support, assuming that the Colossus flies in the same circle around it.

Pretty sure it isn't.  Put a Ravana next to an Orion and see how long it lasts compared to the Galatea against the Lucifer.

Pretty sure they end at that regardless of what's written in the Tables.  The 'Range' parameter just defines where the AI will attempt to fire from.

The SSLs are also very good anti-subsystem weapons. When used properly, A Lucifer can destroy a Colossus without fire support, assuming that the Colossus flies in the same circle around it.

It can't even damage it below 75%.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
beams do end at 30km, but that's generally well clear of the size of any battle.
heh, its also the same range as the SSL :|
