Title: .pof file to .3ds, .obj or any other file type?
Post by: dragonsniper on November 03, 2010, 04:01:59 pm
Is it possible to get a .pof file for a ship in Freespace to any other file format, such as .3ds or .obj? I don't remember ever seeing an exporter of any sort that could do that, if there even was one...

export as .dae in PCS2, then import in Max or Blender as .dae and export as whatever.

Use PCS2. Load a pof, select save as, and select the format you want it saved in.

I don't have "Save As" as an option... Running 2.0.3 - May 15 2008. That is the latest one, is it not?

klick save,then choose in the drop down menu the file format, make sure to check that in the box above the file extension matches the from you selected file extension, e.g. "modelname.dae" if dae is selected.

And no, it's not the latest.
The_E for sure has a link to the latest.

When I go to save, I only get saving as .pof, .cob and .pmf as saving options. There is no .dae

Check Spicious link in his signature.
Ther you can get the PCS2 with dae support.

Then use the standard save dialogue. It should have a selector for the format to save it in.

Also, 2.0.3 is not the latest one. Latest exe:   http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~samm/pcs2.7z DLLs: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~samm/dlls.7z

3D Exploration is very useful. I think I've seen it on FSmods.
pof -> cob -> .3ds/.obj/whatever

the route over .cob tends occasionally to **** up the smoothing.
Haven't tried it, ever since PCS2 has .dae support though.
