*RELEASE* Aerilon is Burning

(1/6) > >>

Nightstorm:
These missions were originally based off of the mission "Learning Curve" by Karajorma.  It's so heavily modified by now though that it's pretty unique.  There are five versions of the same mission.  In four of them you can choose a Viper MK VII or an Assault Viper MK VIIE.  You can have different call signs and matching dialog for each.  Each one will also direct you to land at a different launch bay at mission end.  Otherwise they are identical.  The fifth version allows you fly either a Raptor or an Assault Raptor.  This make them challenging.

The premise of the mission is that the Sobek class Battlestar Perseus is returning from a tour of deep patrol and manuevers on the edge of the outer colonies.  They are responding to reports of a Cylon attach on the colony of Aerilon.  When they arrive they find the Battlestar Sobek and two frigates engaged against two basestars.  Your mission:  Destroy or drive off the invading Cylons and assist the Colonial ships.  This mission can be difficult and there are multiple waves and groups of various Raiders.  Average playtime 20-30 min.

You can use the different fighters and weapons to try different tactics.

All of the required files have been added to a VP archive.  It includes maps, missions, models, sounds and many modifed voice files.  No tables or any other base data is modified.

Extract the file with 7-Zip and place the VP in your root Diaspora folder.

Enjoy and good luck!

*UPDATED*  Fixed some bugs based on feedback and added a new intro sequence.  Minor changes to waypoints and renamed mission files for the possibility of a multi-mission mini-campaign.

*DROPBOX LINK UPDATED* - They just changed their policies, click Download and Continue anyway.

Also stay tuned for a much improved version of this mission in another release ;)

karajorma:
Downloading.

I'll give this a try and report back what I think of the missions.

karajorma:
Damn! That was a lot of fun. It's really nice to play something new in Diaspora without having to be the one to write it first! :p

I've only played through one of the Viper missions so far, but this is actually pretty professionally done. I'm going to play it again later today and give some more detailed comments when I'm not interrupting FREDding to do it but I would strongly recommend other Diaspora fans give it a go.

Thank you very much sir, that's very high praise.  Everything I learned though is from studying the other R1 missions to determine how you folks made things work.  I love this game and I'm a huge BSG fan.  Just recently broke out the '78 version DVD's much to my wife's dissatisfaction.  I tried to explain that part of it is nostalgia, I can remember being a little tike getting yelled at by my mother for sitting too close to the TV when BSG was on. :)

I honestly can't wait to see more missions and more assets.  I go back and look at the Pegasus model in the trailers and drool.  How I'd love to launch from that beauty!  I'm really looking forward to the next release with a new Battlestar to try out :)

the-butler:
Good job! Fun, fun, fun.
