Title: Downloading problems

I just downloaded FSO, Cardinal Spear, Procyon Incurgency and it wont let me open them, it's something about that i don't know what program to open them with and i can't igure it out. Please help a stranded noob.

Possibly .rar files?

Use for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-Zip or some such programs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_archivers to extract the files from the archives.

yeah it is .rar but how do i fix this??

Go to the FSO launcher and click on the mods tabs. From there choose the mod FOLDER you want to play, that should selec the one you want. When you start up a mod, make a NEW PILOT FOR IT. Name them after the mods for the best way to know (Cardnial spear = Card1)
