Title: [Released] Ray MkIII (Now with W and E variants)
Post by: DahBlount on April 17, 2014, 07:02:54 pm
And with this, the Ray series will be done getting an upgrade, or so I was told (can never be too sure).

Anyways, please leave feedback because...

<Spoon> Look, I'm just not very good at conveying meaningful feedback at models. I just acknowledge my weakness.

Ray III

Yes, I stole borrowed the same wings as AndrewofDoom. Don't judge me.

18:59:51 Spoon: anyway, I like the back part of it, the wings are nice, it has nice smooth bevelled edges. the top, side, bottom and back profiles look nice. I just think the front/mid part of the fuselage still looks kind of thick and not as streamlined I guess. Since it wont have an exposed cockpit it might need some breaking up or something. I say this fully aware that it is a WiP
19:00:06   Spoon: is what I just said meaningful at all? :p
Figured I'd slap this here as well.

I personally like it. But I think the missiles in the rack need to be rounded and not flat topped.

Updated to include the Ray MkIII-E and Ray MkIII-W variants.

On the W, shouldn't the wings that point forward have the thicker edge on the rear of the craft instead of on the front?

Is this more to your liking?

Doing a weapons examination with the heavy cannons on the Ray III-W.

Which ones do you guys prefer?

These past few updates of the Rays Mk II and III have been really interesting to track.

I prefer the muzzle brake (rectangular) one.

So the UV maps would have been done today except for one problem.

Blender screwed up the UV maps. It was one of the rare Texture Atlas bugs that occurs that caused them to screw up after finishing the unwrap.

So I have to do more work now.

Wasn't there a WE variant? Or that's the JS?

Ray III-E is the light fighter variant of the Ray III. The Ray III-W is a heavy weapons variant. The JS is a Ray II variant.

I'm doing a very complicated process for creating the UV maps on the Ray III series.

There is a III-WE variant listed in the WoD ships list of the wiki, and I think one of the turn videos showed it in a targeting window. It might have been the one where every wing surface was forward-swept.

This is what I remember, at least.

I do not remember Spoon mentioning that. I'll double check.

Turns out there's a thread showing its stats and appearance (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=72796.msg1549256#msg1549256) as of 2010. This was the only result I found out of the search.

To think I was in Iraq back then. Time really flies.

Ah, I think it's already been done actually. If not I suppose I'll take it over.

Is this a new JGASF livery? It looks like it's made to match the new Guardian Angel. It's turning out really nice, especially in the glows from the engine and intakes.

Yes, both the Ray II and Ray III are being made to match the GA.

Here's a Cycles render of the Ray III-W, which is nearly completed. Features a much better Ambient Occlusion bake.

The model's looking great. I really like the metal texture, not too grungy nor cartoony.
