Next weekend sounds good to me. Hopefully we won't run into any problems.

Agreed. I'll put the server up on Thursday or Friday and hopefully it'll remain stable while I'm not here to reset it. *crosses fingers*  :)

Re: semi-sub-offitial hlp super happy descent 2 multiplayer action!
This weekend. I'm going to put the server up this afternoon (today is Thursday, mind you, in case you read this later) at 2:30 pm Pacific Time. This way we can hopefully work out any bugs by Friday/Saturday which is the scheduled time I do believe. I'd be happy to play a game against the DBB guys, although I'm sure they'll 0wn us. We might want a lil more practice?  ;) :p

Also, be sure you've updated your D2X-XL to the latest version!

Hopefully I'll see some people in my game in the next day or two.

Okay, after a crash or two, I got a multiplayer server up via tracker. The IP address is 128.193.242.125 but I'm not sure what info you're supposed to enter for the tracker thing. Someone please try and join, let me know if they're successful, or if I need to host without the tracker.  :) You can also reach me on AIM with the sn Ulala321 so please contact me somehow asap!

Re: semi-sub-offitial hlp super happy descent 2 multiplayer action!
I wasn't able to see the game, no matter which version of D2X-XL I used.  Also, I tried out the latest version (1.6.58) and it crashes the instant I try to open it (no error message or anything, it just opens a window and then closes it immediately).  I'm not sure if this is related to the crashing or not, but there's a text document in the directory called "stderr" and it simply says "Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)".

Any suggestions?

Re: semi-sub-offitial hlp super happy descent 2 multiplayer action!
My roommate got on my computer and closed the game.  It's now almost 5pm Pacific, and I'm putting the server up again. This time, I won't put it up via tracker, so it's as close as last time as possible (save for the newest version). Someone try to join again please? The IP is 128.193.242.125.

Re: semi-sub-offitial hlp super happy descent 2 multiplayer action!
Is it still up? I just checked but I couldn't see it.

Remember to uncheck the "improve UDP/IP networking quality" setting, in case you have that on.

The latest version works okay for me. I had that instant crash problem a while ago with one of the older versions and found that removing my pilot file (and making a new one) fixed it.

Okay, I unchecked it this time. It's up again. Do you remember if I should have "Short Packets" checked?

IIRC, that one enables a game to run if a player has incomplete packets, right?  If that's the case, then I think that should be checked, right?

CP:  I tried that but I'm still getting the crash.  I'll try checking on the DBB forum... maybe one of those guys can help.
Until then, I'm going to keep trying with the older versions.

Okay, I'll check short packets then. Has anyone else tried to join? I'll update the server with the short packets checked in about an hour.

Re: semi-sub-offitial hlp super happy descent 2 multiplayer action!
Seems so, should I downgrade (for now). Maybe we should standardize it to a preticular version, or it's going to be impossible for everyone to have the same version at the rate the D2XL guy is churning them out. On second thought, there is no way to downgrade, is there?

Re: semi-sub-offitial hlp super happy descent 2 multiplayer action!
No, but I think that's my problem.

You click Multiplayer-> select UDP/IP -> Join game -> Fill in server info and it should be on the list that appears right?

I do believe that's the way to do it. Can anyone else see my game?

Re: semi-sub-offitial hlp super happy descent 2 multiplayer action!
I just checked (with 1.6.58) but I couldn't see it. :( Maybe you can try making a tracker game instead?

I think in the past, the versions have been mostly backward compatible for multiplayer, so it usually doesn't matter if we are all a few versions off. It's probably better if we stick to the same version anyway though, just to avoid any potential issues.

I'm not sure exactly what it does, but it was the cause of the problems we were having with seeing each other's games a while ago. The game only seems to be visible if both the host and the client have it turned off, so it's worth double checking to make sure it's not on.
