Could someone verify this for me?
Gold cockpit glass (Erinyes and Ares) are opaque, hiding the cockpits underneath. In ship lab (F3), checking the Fixed Pipeline option kills normal maps, but restores transparency of the glass.
Radeon Mobility HD 3650, Vista 64, RC3, MVPs 3.6.10
-
Doesn't for me. They are semi-transparent.
MVPs .10, 9600M GT, Win7 64.
-
I bet it's yet another Radeon quirk.
-
Shows everything for me.
I can say the Ares does need a better canopy shape however.
-
I recall seeying an ares with a golden glass... maybe in retail or in 3.6.9 mvps??
or maybe when the sun makes it completely reflective it looks golden, but I certainly recall seeying a yellowish glass at some point.
-
The Ares and Ernyes both use gold glass, as per the color of the cockpit in the retail model/texture.
I can say the Ares does need a better canopy shape however.
Yeah, it does seem a bit low poly when light reflects off of it, doesn't it.
-
Er yeah. I know that the glass is supposed to be gold/yellow. However, I recall it being semi-transparent, so that you can actually see under the glass into the cockpit.
After getting new hardware, the glass now displays like gold opaque metal.

The Ares and Eryines cockpits were initially solid in the 3.6.10 betas. But they are supposed to be somewhat see through, as they do have the interior TerCo or whatever it is called for the Terran Cockpit.
-
So I should go back and re-install assets?
-
No, it's probably a Radeon issue. Try older drivers.
-
*Sigh*
I should get NVidea one of these days... Both my Radeon cards have been causing problems.
I'm already on the factory-installed driver. I don't think I can find anything too much older than that (more than a year ago). I could try updating though...
-
Try 7.11, 8 series and 9 series.

Actually cole, your screenshot looks like what my fighter looks like should I "Fixed Render Pipeline" it. Look at the missiles in the missile bay; if your normal maps are as strong as they should be, those should look 3D, not 2D like they are.
Hence, my complaint of how I either get solid glass or no normals.
-
I have normals turned on. Could you illustrate your point?
-
brb with screenshot.
Screenshots. One's with fixed pipeline rendering, one without. The one without has clear glass, but lacks normal maps, like your screenshot does.

I'm on a Radeon 4870 and I've got the same opaque glass.
-
It seems like GLSL does tend to make everything more opaque...
-
It may be a general issue then. Shout from the hilltops. (This board)
