Muzzle flashes, tracers and trails
Hi.

I'm trying to add in my custom missile trails, explosions, tracers etc. But for some reason a sort of black "bubble" apears around the effect, and I can't get rid of it. This happens on all my custom effects, and both on DDS and PNG-files.

I suggest you attach one of the effects instead. People with more art expertise than me might be able to pinpoint the exact error as opposed to making guesses.

It looks like the "black" part of the effect is getting interpreted by the game as part of the image rather then as transparent as it should be, This almost always is due to the images being saved in a certain format.

What program are you using to edit/make them?

Re: Muzzle flashes, tracers and trails
I used to run into this issue some, and have some notes for myself about how to avoid it. I don't know for certain if they apply to your situation or program, but I figure I'll post them as-is in case they help.

Quote
1) If the effect is transparent in the project file, save it over a black background
2) in the save options, uncheck the Store Alpha Channel option
3) Pick pure black as the transparency color

One or two of these items may be superfluous, but I'm not exhaustively testing right now.

I extracted them from CoD Infinite Warfare and saved them as PNG, the black is already there as a backround for the muzzle effect. They come as 4-5 effects in a single picture on a black backround. I then cut them out and rescale them.

Can you save them as .DDS files instead of PNG? That should tell the game that the black is supposed to be transparent.
