Title: Help: 'Unable to get proper pixel format for OpenGL W32!'
Post by: jedimasterseth on March 07, 2009, 05:54:43 am
Hi there guys,

I've recently got a new pc with windows vista on it. When I try to run any build of 3.6.10 I get the error:

Unable to get proper pixel format for OpenGL W32!

Please help!! 3.6.9 works with the Direct3D8 option in the launcher, but not with OpenGL. 3.6.10 works with neither!!

I want to play Freespace tonight please help me!!

Flint

3.6.10 builds use OpenGL regardless of what you've selected from the Launcher.

Thanks Lobo,

I have a Nvidia geForce 2 MX-400 graphics card. I've been to Nvidia's website and it says that I have the latest drivers. Still getting the error! Any further help? I know that there are some issues with Vista v OpenGL...

Did you also make sure the chipset drivers are up to date? If they are, I assume this has something to do with the fact that GeForce 2 MX-400 was a good card in... 2001 or the likes. Because there are many people with up-to-date hardware and Vista, who can play FSO without (much) hassle.

I'm sorry but any MX series of cards are naff....for the lack of a better word while trying to be polite. They were meant to be low level cards and lack many features of other cards, I had a 64mb version of the same card and didn't have SM 2.0, maybe even SM 1.2. Plus, it's an old card! AGP I suspect also!

You'd be better off scouring car-boot sales or computer fairs for a better card. I picked up an FX 5200 128mb AGP card for £20. Not that much for a major improvement.

Oh well. Guess i'll have to quit from playing fs2 for a while then and save up. Just cant get 3.6.10 to work and noone seems interested in 3.6.9!

That is because what used to be 3.6.9 is now the 3.6.10.

Aside from the graphics card, I don't see any other specs. I also don't see if the latest nightly build was used.

I used to have this problem in XP by having too many transparent or semi-transparent windows open.
