That looks pretty cool.  Gives this "chaotic battlefield" impression.

*snip*
Steele's way of defeating the Gigas.

Wasn't between the forks meant to be part of it's subspace weapon array (a always assumed it would charge down them)? If so, the moment it charges...

...goodbye Steele... :drevil:

I saw that movie, the drunk cropduster guy flies into the beam cannon and then the giant saucer-ship explodes itself!

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Errr, not quite, the beam cannon was still in it's targeting / initialization phase, the fighter craft rammed itself into the beam generator, which, apparently, wasn't hooked up to whatever the alien equivalent of a circuit breaker would be.  :doubt:  Oops.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
But the fighter didn't collide with any solid part of the ship. It just flew into the center of the collimator and the whole thing went kaboom...

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Perhaps the beam did initialize just when the fighter was close enough for the explosion to critically damage the collimator.  It was really close though; I'm not sure.

OK, just checked, looks like an explosion right before the fighter would have impacted (maybe one fighter length away from impact).

Awesome, but something definitely needs to be done about the sound of the primaries firing. Imagining listening to this for 15 minutes...

I agree and suggest considering the Vulcan sound from WiH as a suitable replacement (it sounds somewhat similar to the sound of the laser firing in Gradius V).

Is it possible to destroy the core at this current WIP stage?

Or better yet, the actual sound from Gradius V.

* AndrewofDoom has the whole collection of sounds from that game.

Yes. I just wanted to deny you the satisfaction of watching it blow up. :p

Oh yeah, look at this.
