Anyone can die
I actually seriously considered having Lorric succeed in ending his own life.

I was thinking of replacing him with a character who doesn't share my HLP-name as everyone else besides me and Veers have done. But I'm sticking with Lorric. I like him. I couldn't replace him now.

A) if you kill your Admiral, you're out of the game. You bought it, you keep it, buster.

Hey, there's no rule that says that!

I "bought" a fleet. :)

Nope. You 'bought' a fleet, an Admiral and a flagship.

Flagships are replaceable. Whole fleets are replaceable. We've seen it already.

I'm sure admirals are too. Plenty of crew around to take over.

I would have thought we'd keep them, after all we are the admirals.

But I have no plans on killing Lorric anyway. I can't imagine doing away with him now.

Re: Forum game: RP discussion thread
I might as well drop some little notes I had on removing Lorric from the position of Admiral, when I was toying around with the idea. The first one is for a dead Lorric, and the second one is tweaked with the idea he is unfit for duty and replaced instead. Clearly this was done before my latest promotion. Don't take them too seriously, they were certainly not finished.

*Communiqué to all allied fleets*

My name is ***, former First Officer of Rear Admiral Lorric. I am afraid I have grave news. My master, Rear Admiral Lorric, has met with a most tragic end. His final orders were that I take his place as Rear Admiral and come to the aid of the other fleets and ultimately bring peace back to the galaxy. At that point, he drew his sword, and ended his own life. I tried to prevent it, but I was too slow. I thought he was merely stepping aside from his position in shame, I had no idea he would do that.

But I must not dwell on this now. The best I can do for him is carry out his final orders. To that end, I look forward to working with you all, and bringing peace back to the galaxy, as my late master demanded.

*Communiqué to all allied fleets*

My name is ***, First Officer of Rear Admiral Lorric of the 2nd CRF. I am afraid I have grave news. My master, Rear Admiral Lorric, summoned me to his cabin. His orders were that I take his place as Rear Admiral and come to the aid of the other fleets and ultimately bring peace back to the galaxy. At that point, he drew his sword, and almost ended his own life. I only just managed to prevent it, I thought he was merely stepping aside from his position in shame, I had no idea he would do that. Rear Admiral Lorric has been placed under guard and 24 hour suicide watch. I can only hope he is able to overcome the deep psychological trauma that has befallen him.

But I must not dwell on this now. The best I can do for him is carry out his orders. To that end, I look forward to working with you all, and bringing peace back to the galaxy, as my master demanded.

Re: Forum game: RP discussion thread
Woohoo, finally found the time and courage to do a RP binge reading session. I had like 2 and half pages to catch up with - basically everything from mid november up to late january.

The prospect of impending death (or as it turned out, almost death) inspired me to get back to RPing. I had planned on doing this earlier (in early january to be precise), but I wanted to catch up with everything that people had written in my absence, which itself got postponed until today.

About the RP blackout period (mid november --> early january): basically, RL stuff got kicked into overdrive and there simply wasn't time for anything FS related (besides reading the forums). I then spend a couple of weeks around Xmas and New Year's Eve resting and relaxing. Then I found out how much stuff I needed to read

What I had planned on RPing:
- Resupplying in Virgo: since I had already been there twice for double resupplies, I wanted to turn it into some sort of running gag, with the supply station mocking and taunting the Rear Admiral more & more with each new trip there.
- Facing the Zy: I would have had the Rear Admiral develop a certain hatred for the Zy - particularly after what happened to Tauri, seeing them as a vicious opponent that had claimed a lot of lives and valuable fleet assets (read: named ships, COs and pilots). A particularily exciting bit were the battles with the 2nd Zy, from their interception to their destruction.
- OrBat, named ships, officers & crew & pilots: Those would have been fleshed out as well. I didn't want to have a complete and precise Order of Battle, instead focusing on a few ships and squadron leaders, namely the Swift's escort and a couple of frontline teams. Important people were identifiable by their speech color - the Rear Admiral's was yellow, there was officer pink, etc.
- Interraction with other players: no idea how that would have went.
- The Rear Admiral's personality: I view him as a rather dry & straight forward officer, maintaining a stoic attitude under most circumstances. The Virgo-resupply-taunting thing, and Cyrvan smug acting would have been things that broke his stoicism. I also wanted him to have some sort of rivalry thing with the LSF as a whole.

PRE-POST EDIT - ok, I was supposed to post that earlier this week, but HLP died on me. I don't think I was even done writing it.

Re: Forum game: RP discussion thread
You can still do all you wanted to do you know, if you are able. Enioch just proved it's possible to catch right up with his last RP post.

But I really hope you RP the 1% capship strength event. Scraping out of the system with a flagship that as I described in my post "would break apart if I brushed it with a feather" is a fantastic RP opportunity.

We could also try and do some sort of collaboration on that battle if you like, though I'm not sure how such a thing would be done, I would be up for trying it if you would be. :)

Re: Forum game: RP discussion thread
My plan right now is to RP the preparations for that battle, some snippets of the battle itself and some post battle assesment thingy and try and RP some of the past turns at a later date.

The collaborative RP idea is nice, but given the amount of work I need to do by next tuesday/wednesday, I would have to decline for the time being.

Re: Forum game: RP discussion thread
Okay. You can always get back to me if that changes.

I actually have more history of fighting alongside you than anyone else you know. That could be valuable for RP purposes, for a respect to develop between our admirals.

On the first turn, I fought the 1st Cordi, while you, in the same system, fought the 2nd.

On the third turn, we destroyed the 1st Cordi, together with the 1st UGCR.

On the 13th turn, we destroyed the 6th Cordi, together with the 1st DD, and the turn after the same fleets destroyed the 3rd Cordi, before we were left alone in the system (by design) to fight our desperate battle with the Doomstack, which I am still amazed we both survived.

Derp Derp, only what. 2 months over due?, 3 months?.

Please note, Spelling/Grammar errors are probably high. I wrote a lot, I wrote fast, and late at night (but had the biggest blast doing so!). Please accept advanced apologies for these.

Lorric, your slap is featured within. I wanted to note that as I really really wanted to write something sooner. :), and if required. I'll happily write that 'message' to all Ranking Officers within Sol. Just not right now..

Edit: Some minor adjustments made. Very happy, please excuse me while I pass out.

Hi Veers.

Fwiw I only noticed one spelling mistake when reading. Although the Hertak are just Hertak, not Her'tak. I wonder if that's my fault since I once made a thread called The Her'tak. Because someone else created a race by that name out there in internet-land.

Big smile on my face when I read about the slap idea. Funny and inventive. I also enjoyed the praise you gave me. It's nice to be appreciated.

I've read the whole thing and enjoyed it, Lepanto, you too. So we're going ahead with the idea that the atrocities have already begun from the 3rd CRF. I'll have to think about producing something of my own on this. Also, good bit of detail, how you were involved in (and iirc you were eager to accept it) the surrender of the 4th Cordi. You'll be getting a reputation as "Veers the merciful". :)

In the meanwhile, I think you me and Lepanto may be able to work some magic together if there's a continuing iteration of the game. I think it would be great if we could work with each other as I have been doing with Lepanto on the RP side of things so far. On it's own it would be great, but the fact we're all CRF as well... :pimp:

I wanted to keep the options open RE:3rd Fleet.

More likely, these are isolated incidents and in no way is what I have written designed for force Hartzaden into playing such a route. So I've treated it more as. We've had one or two issues, remind EVERYONE what is going on, hence why the message (Which I should write) was sent to everyone in Sol, CRF or not. (Atleast, that was my aim that I tried to get too)

And I really need to do a write up of those accomplishments... forgot to to that last night. Although, I did kinda pass out after finishing :D

Yeah, that's a good idea, I'll keep it in mind for if I do something. They can just be rogue operatives if there's a U-turn.

I've got a "2nd CRF Service Record" document. :D
