Let me be as vague as I think I possibly can.  The real hint is in Goober's earlier post.

It's something everybody on HLP knows, even if they don't usually think of it.

If everyone  on HLP knows about it, and if it's something that no one usually acknowledges, then poking around for long enough should let you find what you seek.  It sounds like you're on the right track with that Halo 2 reference.  Just keep digging.

I don't know that I'd say "works," per se, but it's something along those lines.  Keep your eyes open as you go about your normal site business, and see if you notice any sort of commonality going on.  It's one of those things that'll make you facepalm pretty hard when you finally figure it out.
