The game crashed as I finished 'abandon hope', and now I can't continue.

Error: couldn't open texture 'girders' referenced by model 'capital01-Legion.pof'

Please help, I have to see how it ends!!

What build?
FSPort installed correctly?
If using the FSPort MediaVPs, do you also have the regular MediaVPs?
Run a debug build and after that, post the fs2_open.log file from your \freespace2\data\ folder.

Ah, the mission starts anyway if you click debug, didn't know that. Can't find the log file, the builds are 1.0 for str and 3.1 for the port.

"Build" in this context means the version of the FSO game engine that you're using. Your safest bet at the moment is to use FSO 3.6.10 RC3 (link in my signature).

If you've run a debug build, there really should be a file called fs2_open.log in your \freespace2\data\ folder.

Edit: Go here, read the "Your fs2_open.log" section, act according to the instructions and then post the fs2_open.log file here.
