Are there no weapon and ship icons in FSPort?
I just went back to the FSPort to play a campaign, after I've been playing the FS2 campaign.

I noticed, that unlike in FS2, there are no icons for the weapons and ships in the briefings, other than silhouettes.
I was wondering if this is how it's supposed to be, or if I've set it up wrong somehow, so any icons there would be, don't appear.

Have you got the FSPort mediavps? I think there's some upgraded ones in there.

Yeah, I got both the regular 3.6.12 mediavps and the FSPort mediavps, and I have the fsport-mediavps selected as the current mod.

Is everything else from the mediavps appearing correctly in-game? It sounds like you're going to have to post a log and/or wait for someone who isn't trying to remember FSPort hierarchy from when they last had it installed two years ago though.

My (untrained and woefully unqualified for any kind of tech support in reality) can't spot anything obviously out of place. Just hang tight until someone who actually knows what they're talking about else comes along and suggests what'll probably be a simple fix.

Can you try the launcher options "Use 3D models for ship selection" and "Use 3D models for weapon selection"?

Also, I think if you've got the most recent version of fsport, then 3.6.14 RC4 will work better than 3.6.12.

I... think you mixed stuff up.

What you are seeing there, ARE icons. The retail FS1 icons. There are no other icons than that.

What you'll probably want instead of icons is the true 3D mesh of the ship displayed. For that, just use the -ship_choice_3d and -weapon_choice_3d flags ("Use Models for Ship Selection" and "Use Models for Weapon Selection" under Gameplay in the launcher).

I don't see how you can't like having the original silhouette icons. I love 'em and Galemp and I both put lots of TLC in making the icons and loadouts as FS1-y as possible. :P

Do the...icons ( I can't think of a better word) for primary weapons derive from models?

By default, there are no 3d primaries in neither FSPort or the MVPs. However, MjnMixael made some, that you can find somewhere in the forum. If the game has no 3d primaries available, it'll revert to the icons it can find. The 3d meshes used for missiles are, however, either specially-made tech room models or the real models used ingame, depending on what's available.

Confusion reigns!
Are we talking about the drag-and-drop to select your loadout icons on the left, or the ANI/rendered model with brief description on the right?

If you have 3d primaries, they'll be used both for the drag-and-drop loadout and the rotating preview with description on the top right. If not, the game will use available icons and ANI preview respectively.

Someone really should code the ability to use icons and still use tech models for the preview....
