Is there a way to make Cardinal Spear use the hd models for the Apollo, Athena etc. from the recent fsport release? The mod itself seems to work fine with 3.6.12 and the latest fsport but it won't use the aforementioned models.

You'd need to open up the Cardinal Spear mod.ini and add the name of your FSPort MediaVPs as the first entry on the "secondarylist" line. And make sure that you have the 3.6.12 MediaVPs and that their folder is also included in the "secondarylist" line.

Tried it, works fine except the GTF Angel shows up as the Valkyrie. I have the following in the mod.ini file:

[multimod]
secondrylist = fsport_mediavps,fsport,mediavps_3612;

Weirdly enough if I ran the fsport_mediavps as the current mod with cardinalspear in it's mod.ini file it brought up all hd models including the hd Angel, but upon the loading screen for the first mission it states there are 7 ship classes missing and playing the mission turns Epsilon wing of bombers into Ulysses. I can play the mod as it is but I'd really like to be able to fly the Angel, is there a way to remedy this?

The Angel scout fighter in Cardinal Spear uses the Valkyrie model.  The Angel is a two gun fighter, but the missions were created and balanced for a 4 gun fighter.  Presumably the campaign was created before any Angel model actually existed.  
Normal people believe that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it isn't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.
The difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers is:
Mechanical Engineers build weapons.  Civil Engineers build targets
An optimist sees the glass half full; the pessimist sees it half empty. An engineer sees that the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Makes sense, I was trying a lot of different setups in mod.ini to get the Angel in and every time it was there it would reak the mission, shame I quite like flying older fighters. Good campaign though, I'm enjoying it.  :yes:

It looks like both Vega and Sirius were completely occupied by the Vasudans in Cardinal Spear judging from their military strength in these systems. However it was clearly stated in the 1st command briefing in FS2 that Vega was the Terran's "new home" (after the GTVA had lost contact with Sol) and Sirius was one of the NTF original strongholds (which means that the majority of Terran military forces based in Sirius had defected to the NTF and Sirius should had been the Terran system by then). So have these systems been captured by the GTA after the events of Cardinal Spear or is it simply a non-canon campaign? (or maybe I get something wrong?)

I don't remember it being stated that Vega was somehow the new Terran home, but in any case Cardinal Spear is definitely not canon.

Also, Cardinal Spear was released before FS2, so it couldn't have foreseen FS2's plot developments.

Nevertheless, this is a good campaign, one of my favorite user-made mini-campaigns so far.

I could translate from spanish to english too, if you want, but it wouldn't be perfect, not at all. For spanish->english translations comes better an english native with spanish knowledge.

Bug- Cairo if disarmed still see by game as armed. Mission hangs up.

It would help to have a little more information to solve this.  Remember that the Cairo must be disarmed and disabled to succeed at the mission.

1) At what point does the mission hang up?
2) Do you get a message from Delta 1 (or Command) saying the Cairo is disarmed?
3) Does the mission log (viewable by hitting F4) say the Cairo is disarmed?

Uh so, sorry if I am performing some form of grave digging here given the age of this thread and its last post..., but I am working through various mods in a timeline fitting order and ended up with Cardinal Spear now :) and I am struggling surprisingly hard with the very first mission against that Typhon class destroyer.
It seems that the vasudans either have a really high number of wings they can deploy one after another or they are probably endlessly spawning. Does not so much bother me, I like to have things to shoot, but my AI buddies are not that thrilled and sooner or later I am ending up the last surviving fighter.
Also our bombers are launching their torpedos waaaay to early, they explode mid flight, never reaching the destroyer? I tried ordering the bomber wing to form up on me and waiting till I have reached the capital ship with them before ordering to attack but it helps marginally, if at all.

After plenty tries of varying orders to my wings and doing my best I noticed that, should the destroyer get past our cruiser an reach the station... that they aren't even really attacking the installation at all, the typhon just parks outside... and I could fly into the hangar bay of the destroyer. So I did that and ended up speeding up the time and chipping away at the destroyer this way, not a satisfying win but at least I can legit pass the mission :D except I loose my own cruiser but alas, can't have everything.

Well, in the end I do get the distinct feeling that something is not quite right with the mission setup, I wonder if that played out differently under older versions or original FS?

Anyway, I'll keep on flying, hopefully the other missions won't be as wonky but I wanted to leave a heads up.

(First post btw, so hello everyone and thanks to everyone involved in FSOpen and the brilliant collection of mods we have today).

Edit: alright, maybe I have just totally misplaced my expectations, third mission I am also retrying again and again, Cardinal Spear seems to be of a different calibre than the main game and previous mods I played. And I thought The Unification War mod was the toughest so far I had chewed through. :)

Cardinal Spear didn't have the best balance when it was first released, but its balance did change somehow due to FSO engine modifications.  If you look at YouTube playthroughs of Cardinal Spear mission 1 from 2012 or so, you'll see that the pilots have a much easier time.  Unfortunately, code changes that affect balance are notoriously difficult to track down, so we haven't identified the cause of this yet.

Yeah the endlessly spawning fighter waves while neither you nor your wingman have shields is not terribly great design.

I also think that can be an issue in mission 4 of the first Cardinal Spear campaign (attacking the Vasudan Talania fleet).  They have lots of respawning fighters and bombers...along with a bunch of cruisers and a destroyer.  You just get the wings you start with (no respawns) and the GTA capships.

Thanks to some excellent detective work by Rajjia, we've discovered that the balance changes were not caused by FSO at all, but rather by the modpack.  In one of the Cardinal Spear releases we switched to modular tables, for better MediaVP compatibility, but we didn't think to compare the stats of the stock retail ships, which reverted to their standard values.  Quite a few stats were changed in Cardinal Spear, including nerfing the Typhon from 120k hitpoints to 26k.  That makes a huge difference in mission 1.

I've uploaded version 1.3.0 to Knossos and the FSO Installer.  All ship stats should now be fixed.
