Let me help you with that:

This is gonna be great. I can't wait to get into the cockpit of a Thunderbolt VII again.
What Standoff was for WC 2, Saga will be for WC 3!
-
Impressive work Saga. It'll be Christmas over Kilrah (lets hope it's the other way around) :D
-
We'll do our very best but we might not make it before Christmas. In case we don't we'll have a nice present ready for you though :)
-
One question, will the Saga executable support techniques that have made it into FSO lately? Especially depth-blended particles and FXAA?
-
We are already in the code freeze state. That means 'no'.
-
On the other hand, I hope all Saga features are ported to FSO like they were the last time, so it'd be possible to play WCS with a regular nightly (or an experimental "Shadows and lightshafts" build :)).
-
...I hope ... it'd be possible to play WCS with ... an experimental "Shadows and lightshafts" build :).
A world of this!

I don't want to dissapoint you, but that is highly unlikely. Our code has been optimized to support our game and most of our changes were made without any regard for Freespace compatibility, so it is highly unlikely that it will be ported back by the SCP. If any experienced programmers want to port some FSO Features over to the Saga version however, that should be possible. We will however not offer support for such an undertaking, neither will we support game problems caused by modified engines.
-
Take your time. If it´s a few more weeks...no problem. I´ve been waiting for 5 years now for this incredible TC.
-
Certain things (like graphical upgrades) should be possible to port without breaking FS compatibility, unless they'll conflict with other features implemented after the fork. As for other WCS-specific features, they'd take some time to adopt, but if they're useful/awesome enough, somebody will do it. This already happened after Prologue was released. Anyway, we'll see after the release.
-
Autopilot. I always love that feature and it made the missions seem a little longer.
-
Thing is: our autopilot is implemented entirely in FRED. Then again, certain SEXPs we utilize either do not exist in FSO or do not work properly.

Porting over FXAA should be relatively simple. Unless of course you have opted not to include taylor's changes to the rendering core and post-processing.
But yes. If there's a feature in WCS that we can port over to FSO without compromising FS2 compatibility, we'll do so.
Also, do note that features like Shadows and godrays rely heavily on the way the FSO rendering engine is structured at the moment, which may be somewhat different to WCS' way of doing things.
-
Anyway , this is safier to use stable build for a big release like this one.
Just one things : did you include the new hud code? (i play with eyefinity 5760*1080) and stretched hud are... unplayable!

Great!

It's not the new HUD code per se, to be honest. We just fixed the way the engine draws HUD elements while using non standard resolutions. Not that you will notice any difference ingame, I believe.

Rockin. These HUD graphics are too awesome to be raped to **** by 16:10 stretching.

HUD graphics I could live with, but comm animations are too good for that. As a matter of fact: 80+ comm animations were crafted for the upcoming release. I am not flippin' kiddin'. ;)

Nice. That I can understand. Especially coming from a Dev.

So beautiful.

No Dekker, don't die!
Wait for WCS to be released. Stay with us!
There you will see things people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. You can watch c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. If you don't play Wing Commander Saga all those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
...Dunno where that just came from actually....
-
Rutger Hauer's brain?
;)
I'm holding out til WCS is finished, and for me to finish it before i let myself worry about mere mortality ;D
-
Rutger Hauer's brain?
;)
That's correct, I just don't know why I posted it all of a sudden. I just... you know... had to do it. :D
-
:shaking: you do realize whoever says that dies afterwards, do you?
-
Nah, I guess I am safe because I didn't quote it accurately.
I did alter the quote because, you know, the original one did not contain Wing Commander Saga (although that would have been pretty badass).
;-)
btw: Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary
--> See, nothing did happ AAAAAAAHHHHHHHFDSFGDGJK

Well, in case any of you were unaware, all missions for the main campaign are finalized. As a team, we're all ecstatic to see all the years of hard work finally packaged up and almost ready to go. Every element of the game has a soul, and that only comes when you have a team dedicated to the vision of what they're creating and unwilling to settle for anything less than outstanding. In other news, we still have some work ahead of us: we should complete the beta phase in 3 weeks time and then start preparations for the RTM build.

Oh a basic question : Are the cockpit are modeled (from the external view i mean) ?
-
No.
-
Does fighters/bombers have integrated cockpit ? Not the external pof.
-
No.
-
Will there be a Linux binary released? Or even just a source code release that you can compile yourself? :nervous:
Edit: derp - shoulda read the FAQ! http://www.wcsaga.com/features/faq.html. In any case - Hooray!!!! :D
-
I've got to say it, there's a compulsion in my actual blood to get it out of my system.....
I LOVE THOSE KAT FREIGHTERS!
-
I really would have loved cockpits but whatever, I'm too excited to care as a new Wing Commander is coming out!
Besides, the stupid AI in Wing Commander 3 cheats if you leave your cockpit on. (On Crazy or Nightmare at least) and exploits the edges of your screen so I ended up turning them off most of the time.

These ships are actually Confed freighters.

Since proper cockpit implementation was not possible within given time frame we took a step back and evaluated our options. Without going into detail, we opted for a Wing Commander IV HUD and I think that in the end it doesn't matter much.
-
Good for you guys! :) I know very little about Wing Commander as a whole, but based on how good Prologue and all of your teaser info have been, I can't wait to see the final product.

If you'd like to know more about Wing Commander, then (other than waiting a few more months for Saga) I highly recommend Wing Commander Standoff (http://standoff.solsector.net/downloads.shtml), which is a free download, and actually leaves off roughly where WCSaga begins. A word of warning though - the game is quite challenging, so you may want to refer to the strategy guide (http://www.wcnews.com/wcpedia/Category:Wing_Commander:_Standoff_Strategy_Guide). It's actually a mod for Secret Ops, which is the first download on the Standoff page, and is set much later against a different enemy. IIRC Secret Ops is a fair bit easier, so you could try that first.
-
Standoff and Unknown Enemy are great mods of the old vision engine (the one of Wing Commander Prophecy), if you like Wing Commander you should try them while you wait for Saga. The graphics may not look very high-res, but from a gameplay and story perspective they have done some really great things with that old engine.
But beware! Perhaps they will fuel your thirst for Saga even more :-)
-
Or just play through Wing Commander 1 - 3 while you wait. Even all these years later they completely stand up to the test of time.
-
True. Compared to other games of that era Wing Commander has aged remarkably well.
(or maybe I'm just a retro fan so my opinion doesn't count. Hmmm.....)
