If Volition didn't become console-centric, I do think Volition Watch would have survived. Red Faction simply couldn't compete UT2k3 in the modding scene, which killed the community.

To a certain extent I'd say that the Red Faction boards on the VBB are also what led to its being closed. Hard to moderate the influx of users, etc. Then again, I think that the boards would have died quickly after the game hit retail due to the competition from other games like UT.

Not me, sadly.. I may have clicked around it once or twice, but the earliest time I can remember looking around the FS community was Hard Light in its infancy... I used to have aaaaaaaaalllllll of Setekh's old art on my compy... they was nice.

Ahh, the days of the VBB... keeping TAS alive far longer than it deserved...

... and then breaking the forum when the thread became longer than 100 pages...

I ended up starting a spinoff of TAS on a different board altogether. It was, oddly enough, well-received.

And it involved Elvis and his army of Smurfs, prune-throwing gnomes, Mr.T (of course), multicolored intelligent black holes, the UES Iron Fish, an evil scientist named Von Herringberg, his clone Von Cerringberg, the Uzbekistani Commandos, and Newfoundland flying through space with its amazing half-timezone powers.
