By all means, I should have specular mapping up and running now.
I am using a Radeon 9600 Sapphire (Sapphire is like a modded XT)
My catalyst version is 4.4, and should make the specular mapping work.
My directx version is the most recent, however.
Any help would be appreciated with getting the shinemaps on.

Err. Is -spec selected in the launcher?
I know it's the most obvious question, but sometimes the most obvious is overlooked. :nod:

It's been so long since this started happening that I've more or less given up on a solution and gone to OGL. My card doesn't seem to have any problems with that, and I don't have to use hacked drivers. There are a few glitches in the interface, but it's something I can live with. However, if I remember correctly, some of the Raedon cards of about that age didn't work with shines before the 4.5 drivers, and from what you're describing it could easily be at fault here. Of course, I did notice that there is a feedback option on the ATI website about the drivers specifically; has anyone ever even pointed out to them that something has happened?

env mapping worked when i went to 4.4. in the higher drivers, env mapping did not work.
For some reason I can't get any frame to show up properly when using open gl.
aka i get scattered colors blinking.

For OGL you should a) use a current build and b) upgrade to Catalyst 4.12 or newer. :)

ogl is on the latest official release. Catalyst 4.4.
I got Open GL working, but a very annoying problem comes forth.
Explosions, Engine Glows, Various Particles, Subspace Models, Weapons, and Some Projectile Trails all create a generic white square in the place the above would be. Though the specular mapping works (and is beautiful), these squares are annoying the hell outta me. If there is any fix, can someone post it, please?

does he mean catalyst 4.12 and lower or higher?
To clear things up, the specular mapping works, but some other things dont. EX the tech room is flawless. The game is buggy.

4.12+...Best to make sure that the problem's definitely with fs2_open and isn't a driver issue - I don't think there are any problems with 4.12 in OGL mode.

ogl stops working altogether.

Do any other builds work? I know that taylor commited some OGL fixes in some newer builds (in the Recent SCP Builds forum)

would be cool if the spec maps were working in OGL, but at least, it's better than nothing.
That was the useless post of the night, I'll let the thread go back to its original purpose now :p

i wish i could say that your assistance helped. Sadly, I can not.
I just decided to trash the spec mapping thing, and switched to the Omega version of the catalyst 4.4. I left the flags on unchanged, and played a game. BOOM! D3D SPEC MAPPING WORKS!
