Title: Freespace 1 Resolution Issues
Post by: dANGER boy on January 24, 2009, 12:46:27 pm
So I've been running into this problem with older games lately, especially FS 1.  I can play everything just fine, but when I exit the game and restart my computer, it reverts to 640x480 resolution, messing up all my desktop icons and stuff.  It also happens when I close my laptop and the screen turns off.  Somehow, when the screen turns off and back on, it wants to do it in 640x480.  Any ideas on fixes?

Check the graphics settings from your GPU driver control panel and/or try to find the latest drivers for your GPU from the laptop manufacturer's website.

I'm using the latest drivers I can.  I have a Quadro FX 570M card in a Lenovo Thinkpad but it doesn't work with many older games.  So, I have it masquerading as a GeForce 87000M.  I haven't had any problems except for this resolution problem.

I think this is probably an issue with the OS, and there isn't really anything to fix it. Just don't close the lid while the game is showing.

As for it doing it when you restart, I'm not sure what to say there.

Did you make sure to run it in compatibility mode? I remember when I first played FS1/FS2 (retail fs2) on a machine running Windows XP, in both cases there were issues because I hadn't turned on compatibility for older versions of windows. This led to things like the tab key (which is the default key for afterburners) not working properly, making afterburner use impossible.

I'm using a GOG.com version straight off from install and they don't have compatibility mode on.  I'll try it and see if it works.  Thanks
