Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
Debug build from your Diaspora folder and post the fs2_open.log you'll find in the data folder afterwards.

Alternatively just choose run in a window and fullscreen window from the launcher's advanced tab.

Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
Hello, thanks for the reply.

Run in a window and full screen window makes the game simply start in the middle of the screen..ie not full screen

Log attached.

Thanks for the help  :)

Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
Try also getting a log when the game is not running in a window, even if the game crashes.

Please open the Launcher, and select a video mode that uses the same bit depth as your desktop (That is, if your desktop is running with 32 bit color, use a 32 bit color mode for FSO)

Oh, and in the graphics options, you should enable post processing and fxaa for extra graphical goodness.

Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
Hi

Thanks for the inputs,

So far I have tried 3 different Ati Drivers all same result so I must have borked the OS somehow..

16 / 32 bit colour depth no difference, tried different resolutions same deal.

If I check run in window, run in full screen window, Open Space Debug reports no error but log attached anyway. (no crashes)

any final thoughts before I nuke this OS ?

Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
Same problem here....

It was working to start with but has since decided to stop starting in full screen....

i7 860
Asus P7P55D-EVO
AMD 7970
16GB DDR3
Win 8 x64

I'm not as keen as jonny5isalivetm as I'm not going to re-install my OS, but I do want to play this so any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
If you're not willing to re-install Windows to play, then Diaspora is clearly not for you. :P (just kidding)

More seriously, though,
Debug build from your Diaspora folder and post the fs2_open.log you'll find in the data folder afterwards.
More detailed instructions here, although you can skip the step where you select "Run in window". You might want to try doing that separately and see what happens, though.

This pops up when I run Debug mode:

HTH

Oh and BTW, windowed mode makes no difference apart from having a windows border around the game.
Cheers

1024x768 and 16-bit color are probably the problem, or at least part of it.

Go to the launcher's basic settings tab and change the resolution to your monitor's resolution, which is probably the first option in the list of resolutions.

Also change the depth to 32-bit.

Then try again.

Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
Tried that.. made no difference....

Thanks for the help guys! I appreciate it.

Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
Hmm... I'm afraid graphics are a bit outside of my expertise, so other people may be able to help you better.

Just to make sure, you have the Diaspora 1.0.4 patch, right?

Also make sure your video card drivers are up to date.

EDIT: Could you also post a new fs2_open.log?

Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
Hm, the log still says 1024x768 resolution and 16-bit color depth. Make sure the resolution and depth are set correctly.

Beyond that, I'm afraid this'll require the attention of someone better versed in the graphics code.

Well in the launcher I have these settings....

As you can see the res I have set is 2560*1440 which is my monitors native res......

Help me please! :(

Thanks for the input Karajorma.
I have no third party software like that installed at the present so it can't be that. Looks like that guy still has no solution to his problem either ....

Re: Cannot Launch in Fullscreen
Perhaps try compatibility mod on the wxLauncher?  I don't know if that will help or not, but it's a shot..  just remember to uncheck anything you tried if it doesn't work after you're done.

EDIT: Just found this topic:

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=83397.0

(New version of Norton preventing FSO from using non-command line parameters)

Perhaps try using the command line to force bit depth and resolution?

http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Command-Line_Reference

e.g.,  -res 2560x1440

NOTE: It appears there is no command line fro specifying bit depth (16 or 32 bit)... maybe coders can add support for that?  *eyeballs the wizard table*
