Re: What are you playing right now?
Meanwhile with some googling I've been able to find some sort of Demo (essentially it's the combat flight tutorial) and had quite some fun with it even if it's combat only, adjusting to the roll/pitch controls hasn't been the hurdle I thought it would be, and changing speed to gain maneuverability has always been second nature to me after years of XvT only this time there is also strafing (though I used it only in the final part because I couldn't find the keys) and afterburners.
It's also surprisingly simple, there aren't as many keys as I thought even without a throttle I didn't need to touch the keyboard that much.

I might give it a try at the next steam sale.

Re: What are you playing right now?
So I bought X-COM:UFO Defence and have put in about 12 hours into it. I'm planning on getting XCOM2 soon, but I lost my copy of the old original game so I decided to buy it for five bucks. I am going to clear it at least once before playing OpenXCOM and using some of those sweet mods that are available for it.

That and without playing using OpenXCOM the original plays so bad on my computer, I don't know if its DOSboxes fault or what but the Geomap seems to love 10 fps.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Finished up Bioshock.  The final boss was a bit of a pushover (as they so often are), and the ending was a bit short but still d'awww (no I'm not a murderous asshole why do you ask).  Just a really great experience overall though, minus a few hoops one has to jump through to get the PC version playing nice today.  (For instance, the physics engine is locked to a hideous 30 FPS, but thankfully there's an external patcher that can set it to whatever you desire.)  I will disagree with a few of the complaints raised earlier, though: I found that guns worked fairly well right until the end (dat crossbow), and the escort mission was fairly painless as escort missions go.  I know Ken Levine wasn't involved with the sequel, but I'm still looking forward to it.

Meanwhile in Armored Warfare...

...DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH THE CAP BEFORE TIME.

The worst thing being this Chally couldn't shoot for ****; he'd go for cupola shots or fire HE or both for like 100 damage a shot, but he was in this one spot, the AI didn't try for a flank shot, so they stood there, thirty bots against the lone Chally, bouncing off his front, HEAT rounds exploding futily against him, unable to harm the world's worst Challenger 1 driver.

For eight minutes.

We tried to ask the guy how much damage he'd blocked but he didn't know how to read the detailed results screen and gave three answers that were far too low.

The evening got worse after that.

No spare cash at the moment, I'm trying to put together enough money to buy a CH Pro Throttle, here in Italy it's about 150 Euros with free delivery from Amazon.it and that's the lowest price I could find.

Of MW3? That and the intro to WH40k Dawn of War are probably my two favourite intros :)

I have most recently been playing Pony Island! It's great. It is a game about Ponies! ^____^

I will say it's a bit buggy tho', I've had to manually patch the game as I go...

Pony island is heavily underrated. The beam cannon power up is very freespacey.

I'm playing battlefield 4. So sue me :)

Re: What are you playing right now?
I gave X-COM Interceptor a whirl around the bush a few minutes ago. My thoughts? On the tactical level at least, it's extremely twitchy for some reason, with the AI constantly pushing head-on attacks all the time and flying at breakneck speeds. Even at Beginner difficulty I can't keep up. I suspect I might need to slap the game with some sort of frame limiter, it may be going cuhrayzee from unbounded AI calculations or something. The flight model feels very wishy-washy too. Shame, I liked the idea of a dynamic space dogfight game with an X-COM strategy layer on top. Maybe another time.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Deus Ex: The Fall: This is actually much better than I expected from the reviews (PC version). It's watered down a lot compared to HR and is very short, basically a single hub world, but still feels like a Deus Ex game and picks up from the end of the novel. Major kudos for letting you save as well.

Metro 2033: Great atmosphere, but the levels get repetitive after a while and the story is pretty weak and doesn't make much sense. I haven't read the books it's based on though. It often tries to be a stealth game but is poorly suited for that and is more fun as a straight FPS.

I've now started KOTOR for the first time. It feels like an early version of Mass Effect, which is good, but the combat and inventory system are clunky. It's hard to get working on modern PCs and I still can only run it properly in a window.

Re: What are you playing right now?
KOTOR combat is the older Star Wars d20 RPG rules, based heavily on D&D 3.0.  It's turn based under the hood, which is probably what makes it seem clunky after a decade and change.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Although even among "turn-based under the hood" combat systems, I still find KOTOR clunkier than e.g. Baldur's Gate.

Got sucked into Stardew Valley over the weekend, so much nostalgia

That's because much is missing from the game that is in the book for the sake of the multiple endings (you might not have noticed is a thing there) .... the sequel is better because it is an original story taylored for the medium - but if you are fatigued of the level design you might not want to try it yet

EDIT: I'm also playing Superhot.exe. And I'm conflicted: I'm at the point in the game where
Spoiler:
the game tells you to stop playing the game, and you (the player character) agrees to not launch superhot.exe again.
Now I want to keep playing, and see what happens, but other games like Spec Ops: The Line and Save The Date (hope this link works right) makes me want to go for the "shut it down forever" route.

Spoiler:
Also, when the game traps you in the prison and is all "ha ha, you can't escape, go ahead, try it!" I alt+f4'd and had a good laugh.
