Re: What are you playing right now?
Wing Commander Saga
F**k skipper missiles, I HATE them.

EDIT

Got 'em, I had to use imrec missiles (heat seekers don't work even from behind for some reason) but I made it and got a silver star, how are medals awarded exactly?
Until now I got two bronze and this silver.

Naval Action: Working on leveling up to Capitaine de Corvette so I can crew a Cerberus, the first available Frigate.  Also trying out the 24pd Carronades on the Merc, they hit like a hammer up close but are pretty ungainly at range.

Rule The Waves.

It's not going so great. Caught a light cruiser raider with one of my predreads. The result was a mutual kill. If you were to picture the light cruiser doing the Fury Road "WITNESS ME" schtick and charging with torpedoes, you'd not be far off.

Just got promoted to Capitaine de Corvette in Naval Action, giving me command of enough men to fully crew a Cerberus Sixth Rate Frigate of 28 guns:

For the past week or so I've mostly played Starpoint Gemini 2. A bit simple and has zero interest in trying to be realistic, but great fun nonetheless.

Re: What are you playing right now?
It's 1904 in the Bay of Biscay as the US and French battle lines face off, the US having sailed across the Atlantic to try and settle things once and for all.

While the two battle lines exchange hits at about 5000 yards in darkness, with the French getting the worst of the deal but neither side really in danger, just out of sight, behind the battle line, a pair of USN destroyer squadrons maneuver and then charge between the gaps in their own battle line, preparing to deliver a single Kantai Kessen-style night torpedo attack and win the war.

Thirty seconds. Ten to reach launch position and twenty to impact. It's 1904 so you can sink even Bs with single torpedo hits. That's all I needed.

But the French turned away at just the right moment, and I got nothing. The action was inconclusive as they broke contact after the destroyers had to turn away. Dammit. Once in all of history chance down the drain.

Okay I love Frigates, I really, really love Frigates.  I only have the starter 6th Rate and I can't wait to break into the real 5th Rates.  Surprise, Renommée, Belle Poule, Trincomalee, Essex, Constitution.

I was thinking it looked like the FS cockpit heavily stylized and re-arranged slightly in a "we TOTALLY didn't copy this" kind of way.  not that i'm saying that's an awful thing, but most of the major elements of the FS2 hud are there in a strikingly similar layout.

Which already was a variant of the Wing Commander IV cockpit layout, Freespace was essentially Wing Commander with better gameplay, mission design and controls and less "cinematic" storytelling.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Today my first arcade stick arrived.
It's a Mad Catz Street Fighter X Tekken Arcade Fightstick Pro for xbox 360 (I use it on PC of course).
The thing is huge, I still have to get used to it (mostly using it on emulators right now until I can get Ultra Street Fighter 4, Skullgirls, Blazblue or Guilty Gear on a Steam sale) but I was lucky enough to pay it only 50 Euros plus shipping, being more or less the price of a Hori ministick 4 (my first choice, being new at fighting games and not wanting to spend much) I couldn't let it go to waste.

The funny thing is that while recent versions of MAME accept the controller without particular issues (even plowed through Golden Axe with it just for the hell of it), older versions don't, and the newer versions seem to not work very well with most fighting games I'm interested in for some reason, I had to use winkawaks with the help of joy2key.

EDIT

Speak of the devil... Blazblue is on sale on steam, fortunately I still have a couple of euros on my prepaid card.

Considering the quality of Mad Catz products, I'd rather have gotten one from another company. Mad Catz sticks break way too easy and have short life spans.

In fact the stick itself is Sanwa, as are the buttons, Mad Catz only made the PCB and the chassis of the thing, otherwise I wouldn't have touched it with a ten meters pole no matter how little it costed.

That's essentially the main reason why among the fightstick community Mad Catz has a good reputation, but even then they know not to buy their arcade ministicks as their stick and buttons are done in-house by Mad Catz and so are made of tissue paper like their flightsticks and those things are still overpriced for what they should be (Hori does better when it comes to budget fighting game stuff).

Of course when it comes to proper joysticks for spacesims I am a proud CH Products user. :)

Re: What are you playing right now?
So I have beaten the ribcage dragon and I guess I am now worthy of entering Blighttown. I tried some human phantoms, but mr. soulkeeper just died from the first hit. I ended up beating him with the Lautrec, or whatever the gold bastard knight is called. I forgot about the tail, but the weapon seems only viable in ng+ anyway. Also, the bloody basilisk den is just.. unnecessary.. but I guess it fits the general theme of keeping your focus at all times. I am pretty bad at this so I guess that's a useful thing to practice. DS makes me realise just how important is your attitude. I had huge problems with the beggining of the dragon fight, because he had just so much health, but after getting him down to 30% I could easily solo him to the end, because I just saw the end getting closer and felt motivated. Next, Blighttown.
