Title: The TAP Recruitment effort, V2
Post by: Pyro MX on October 30, 2009, 05:16:51 pm
Hello fellow fans,

As you may now, for those who have been looking out on the forums lately, we are actually in the process of recruiting members into the project, mainly modelers. The success of the campaign will have decisive effects regarding the direction of the project. So if this just piqued your curiosity, read on!

If you ever wanted to be part of the project, now is the best time to apply! We are looking for 3D modelers. Assets that needs to be produced include both Hiigaran and Vaygr ships and background elements. Tasks range from modeling, tweaking and texturing. But one thing is sure, there is job to do.

In short, we urgently need:

We also have some jobs open in the FRED and testing department.

Interested? Reply in this very post. Specify the work you wish to accomplish. If you have any past experience, cool stuff you'd like to show to us, you are encouraged to do so. Me and Dark Knight (and Pecenipicek, should he get back in time  ) will read and check your stuff and come back to you as soon as we can to give you the juicy details (well not necessarily that juicy). Please note that we do this in our spare time, so don't take it personal if the response doesn't come the second you answered us.

Can you turn a cube into a battlecruiser? We'd like to see you in action!

I'm in, I have no previous experience on modeling but I'm trying to finish my second model so far-

I can make you some basic desings, with time maybe even something more elavorated, the downside of this is that I suck at texturing.

You can count me in for fredding and maybe for background stuff as well.

If you intend to import meshes and textures from HW2 I can do it, I've a solid modding experience of HW2 even if I'm a bit busy those times :)

Holy crap, that sounds like it'd be ideal, wouldn't it?

I'm not sure, because the models used in Homeworld 2 have less detail than needed in a Space Sim, because there you see the ships from a certain distance...

Show us a sample set a battlecruiser or something. A raw conversion and if you can up the tempo (improve it a tad) show us that as well. We'll get back to ya as mentioned

I have absolutely no modeling skills myself, but exporting meshes and textures from HW2 (or even HW1 and HWC) I can easily. My actual HW2 modding skills may be of little use here, I can also get all stats of the ships including maneuverability, armor penetration and so on. Exporting fx textures and sounds is perfectly doable too.

But my experience of modding FS itself is quite limited, so all I can do is to get original materials from HW and you'll probably have to convert and import ingame yourself.

To contact me, xfire MatthTheGeek or msn matth.t[at]hotmail.fr so I can send you files to show what I can do.

EDIT : And I feel like to add : a low poly but complete and fully textured ship is better than no ship at all :p and HW2 fighters aren't lower poly than FS1 and some FS2 fighters before the MVPs.

I'd rather have a TC with ugly models than no TC at all. :D If nothing else, low-poly models means you can get away with much, much bigger battles...

Well, I love me some homeworld. I don't really have the time to be a full dedicated member though.
But if you guys can provide the texture file, i'll make you guys a fighter.

Maybe we could try modifying the models themselves, to make them higher poly, instead of modeling it all from scratch..

I'm willing to join in, but I need something in turn.  My last copy of FSO had to be un-installed because when I was trying mod the game, via trial and error, something got messed up in the files and had to be un-installed.  What makes matters worse, was that THAT copy of FSO was may only way of getting the DESCENT: FreeSpace games.  These newer versions don't have that copy anymore (...WHICH SUCKS!!!  I LOVE the DESCENT Series!...), so I'm going to need working copies of DESCENT: FreeSpace: The Great War, its expansion pack, and FreeSpace 2.  Unless I get the money here soon, I won't FULLY be of assistance.

Oh!  Forgot.  I've got an older version of FSO on a separate computer (version 3.7 I think).  I know how to use FRED2 a bit, so maybe I can help out there until I get a newer version?

You only need $6 or so to buy a fresh copy. That's why it was taken out of the free installer.

Hello!

First, let me say I'm overjoyed to see this project up and kicking again! Good show I say.

Second, while I can't model, I am learning to table, FRED, and make skyboxes/planet maps if that might help. Samples available in a matter of months! Maybe.

Anyway! You have my support, nebulous though it may be!

FIRE THE WELCOME BEAM!
:welcomesilver:

Cheers, i'd recommend starting at the Fred academy once you've done the fred tutorial (the fred docs in your freespace folder should help.

The fred academy is here on HLP in it's own board.

Check the wiki modding portal  here as well for some top tips.

FIRE THE WELCOME BEAM!
Thanks! Technically I've been about HLP for quite a while, I just recently strayed from FotG to other project boards. I will definitely check out that FRED academy; I want to do some pretty complicated missions and I don't even know if it'll be possible.

Not really sorry. We need texture artists and modellers primarily.

I'd like in- I'm was a modeler. I suddenly have a great deal of free time on my hands. I can't say I have a huge amount of experience but I have been done work for some old Freelancer projects. That being said, the Homeworld universe is, has and probably always will be, my one true love when it comes to sci-fi. I was digging around in my old files and stumbled across my old modeling tools. I'm rusty, but like I said, I would relish the chance to be involved in this.

I can probably get some decent textures on to models as well.

Please feel free to contact me.

I've applied in the past, but it wouldn't hurt to try again. :) What kind of ships are in need of being modeled? Could you possibly send a pic of one over via a PM, and I'll look into it. Or would you prefer a full time modeler? If so, I doubt I could help due to lack of spare time.

Here's a screenshot of me testing out some fun stuff on my own. I'm flying a Turanic Missile Corvette, testing the shielding of a defense field frigate.

(http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/4071/screen0004j.jpg) (http://img413.imageshack.us/i/screen0004j.jpg/)

I also do alot of writing. My plan was to get all the retail ships into the engine, with my favorite ones first. Currently working on importing the mothership.

I also have a table for the size of all the ships. Should be handy!

Hey people. I just thought "what could be more awesome than flying my favorite HW ship in Freespace" and *BAM* found this project.  :)
If you're still looking for somebody to model/texture some ships, here I am. I recently started some taiidan ships (heavy corvette & interceptor) inspired by Talros on deviant art. He did some artwork for a HW2 mod that sadly never came out. Awesome stuff imo. My plan was to create a tribute video to HW based on his concepts so those models are quiet high poly but I can redo them easily.
I'd like to mainly focus on Taiidan ships as long as I'm allowed to use some of his concepts because I seriously don't like some original Taiidan designs (destroyer, ion-frig. etc.). Just look at Talros' assault frigatte...It's so adorable :D
Else I'd do nearly everything else but I prefer the Vaygr (as always ^^).

so drop me a line if you're interessted and get this mod released :)

If you are interested in HW1 and Cataclysm stuff contact the Journey to Hiigara (http://www.mostlyharmlessalliance.com/viewtopic.php?f=741&t=14950) team. We are strictly a HW2 based team, and as such we'd only approve of folks interested in doing HW2 stuff. (mainly vaygr atm.)

actually i'm not. I like most of the new ships better than those in HW1 but whould have been nice to see the Taiidan comming back kickin some ass with refined designes. that's just one thing i imagined when i thought about HW in FS2. ;)
So i'm perfectly fine with doing some Vaygr ships. Tell me what's needed and I'll give it a shot.
