Title: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: Axem on November 12, 2005, 09:48:09 pm
THIS CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN RERELEASED! PLEASE GO HERE TO PLAY AN EVEN BETTER VERSION! (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=71634.0)

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/NarfPics/AxemArt/jad2banner.jpg)

IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH WHITING OUT TOO FAST LOOK AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST!

Because there's ALWAYS room for a sequel!

For anyone who hasn't played the first one, here's a link to Just Another Day: Special Edition 2 (http://www.game-warden.com/narfin/campaigns/axm_JAD_SE2.rar) (now with ogg goodness). There's some carry over from the first one, so be warned.

This one is quite different from the first, in that the title has a 2 at the end, and the subtitle, Electric Boogaloo appended to it. The rest is just stolen missions from Blackwater Plumbing Operations, Seasick, The Aeolus Affair (Rated NC17), and the lost campaign of The Scroll of Machina Neo-Terra... Project... 12... Reimagined. So get ready!

Campaign Description
This new and amazing campaign answers the question, what happened to Bosch, and just what ARE the Shivans? In addition some other stuff happens but you switch sides to battle a corrupt and evil government! The fate of the GTVA rests on your shoulders.

Just another day, right?

YOU

ARE

STILL

ALPHA

ONE!
[/size]

So yeah. It is.

Prepare for MORE the following!

- MORE plotholes!
- MORE copyright infringements!
- MORE references to Disco Music!
- MORE the power of ETAM, the next-next-generation of ETAK! (ok, maybe not)
- MORE God*!
- MORE unexpected twist endings!
- MORE AND MORE!

*MORE God may still not be God, your God may vary.

Notes
Okay, it's a first release, and mind you I did all the testing by myself (not good I know), so there are bound to be spelling mistakes and some errors with stuff. Let me know so I can fix it as soon as I can!

And I'm sorry to say its SCP only. I just can't not take advantage of all the cool stuff they've put in! It should work with anything post 3.6.7., although I myself had problems with 3.6.7, but your milage (or kilometerage) may vary.

the third mission (the one where the Vasudans come in) is a wee bit too hard (too many fightesr and caps shooting at ya), so far its good... :(

Oh noes!!! :eek:

Crap, now I'll have to step up production of DEM II.  I was hoping to have it done before this came out. :p

EDIT: What was the crashing sexp in mission 5 of JAD 1?

Electric boogaloo! Best campaign name ever! :D

Singh: I wanted to have that "Terran" destroyer destroyed as soon as possible, so that might've spilled over into you getting pummelled too. I probably tweak that.

Goober: Haha! :p

There was some problem with the player-not-use-ai or something. You even PM'd me to see if I could not use it. Which I eventually did, and nothing was really lost.

I have a problem with a mission.

Spoiler:
That YMCA mission where Not Derek Smart appears - when it fades it allways failed.
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo

Can you give a bit of a better description? How do you mean it failed? What build are you using?
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: butter_pat_head on November 13, 2005, 05:17:28 pm
I have a problem with a mission.

Spoiler:
That YMCA mission where Not Derek Smart appears - when it fades it allways failed.

I got this to.  At the end of the mission the screen fades out while chatting to (mumblemumble2) and then all I get is a "no debriefing for mission blah blah..." with the mission failed music.  Clicking accept brings up the "you have failed this mission" box.  I got past it by finding amusing ways to kill myself.  I am using the 20051107-Optimized build.
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: Axem on November 13, 2005, 05:22:08 pm
How odd.

Spoiler:
There IS no debreifing for that mission, it should cut right the the next mission afterwards. But I probably messed something up with the campaign advancement... :(

EDIT: I think I found the problem, updated fc2 file uploaded, its right under the campaign link. If it works, I'll update the vp later tonight

Yeah, I was just about to post that.  There's a bug in the campaign file:

Code: [Select]
$Mission: Axm_jad2-4.fs2
+Flags: 0
+Main Hall: 0
+Formula: ( cond
   (
      ( and
         ( is-previous-event-true
            "Axm_jad2-4.fs2"
            "Fade out"
         )
         ( is-previous-event-true
***         "axm_jad2-1.fs2"
            "Mission6_Yes"
         )
      )
      ( next-mission "axm_jad2-65535.fs2" )
   )
   (
      ( and
         ( is-previous-event-true
            "Axm_jad2-4.fs2"
            "Fade out"
         )
         ( is-previous-event-true
            "axm_jad2-4.fs2"
            "Mission6_No"
         )
      )
      ( next-mission "axm_jad2-5.fs2" )
   )
   ( ( true ) ( next-mission "Axm_jad2-4.fs2" ) )
)

+Level: 3
+Position: 0
The starred line should have 2-4, not 2-1.

That's exactly what I changed too. :)

That's what I get for copying and pasting too quickly I guess.
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: NGTM-1R on November 13, 2005, 06:52:57 pm
FS2's refusing to even load the first mission with every build I try...it appears to be looking for something called [#Plot Info] and not finding it.
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: Axem on November 13, 2005, 07:02:50 pm
That's... really weird. :wtf: I've never seen anything like that. Some new field for campaigns and/or missions? I have no idea how to fix that right now. Anyone else know anything about this "Plot Info"?
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: Nuclear1 on November 13, 2005, 07:26:37 pm
FS2 was notorious for doing this with Desperation Ch. 2 as well. All I did was go into FRED and copy/paste the Plot Info fields from a generic FS2 mission into the problematic file and it usually ran well after that.
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: Axem on November 13, 2005, 07:47:27 pm
Okaaay... I did what you said and copy and pasted the Plot Info from a retail mission. Must be some new strict parsing rules in the builds. VP's been updated with new missions and fixed campaign file.

Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo

Pretty sure. I copy and pasted everything from #Plot Info to #Command Briefing from one of the retail campaign missions.

edit: I even downloaded the rar, and looked at the mission files, the plot info stuff is there
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogalo

I seem to be having the opposite problem. It has Plot Info and wants everything else.

:sigh: That's... annoying. I'll go and Mantis it, and see if those coders know what to do with it.

In the meantime, I'll put up a version without the plot info crap.

Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo

No. I've tried various builds starting with 3.6.7 and ranging back to 3.6.6

#Plot Info

$Tour:  XSTR("Blah", 6)
$Pre-Briefing Cutscene: Blah
$Pre-Mission Cutscene: Blah
$Next Mission Success: Blah
$Next Mission Partial: Blah
$Next Mission Failure: Blah

I have no idea whatsoever what it does. I suspect it's nothing as the quote is from a :v: mission
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo

On Mantis, Goober said it contains no useful info for the mission. FRED doesn't generate it unless save a mission as FS2 Retail.

What build are you using? There is something up with the Shivan Comm Node there, I never touched the ships.tbl, and was just using the stuff provided from the add data dialog.

ngtm1r: Huh? :confused:

Ok, I got problems.

First, tried it out, said failed to load mission.  D-loaded the fixed fc2 and no plot .rar, worked fine.  Until the Third mission.  When the fenris jumps in, when it is about to collide and self-destruct, the game locks up.  Any ideas?

Post by: Axem on November 14, 2005, 06:41:09 pm
Sorry to say I don't know. Sounds like something to do with explosions or shockwaves. Though I may be way off base.

But just a precaution, try not to refer to these missions by place or number. Maybe just a very vague description, or the mission name.

Spoiler:
Cause there's a randomly placed mission that might mess up the order.

As bad as it sounds, try restarting the campaign. I've found sometimes after I changed the campaign file I had to restart it for there to be any change.
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: MrBig101 on November 15, 2005, 05:02:39 pm
I was using the default explosions (the ugly reddish ones, was going to replace them with the purdy blue ones), and the funny thing was it worked a couple of times, but then locked up later in the mission...

I'll try downloading the VPupdates and see if it effects it at all, and try the blue shockwaves... dunno.

Not being able to search I'll post this one here. JAD SE appears to have a bug in it. I decided to play JAD first since I'd never got beyond mission 2 when it was released but

Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogalo
Post by: karajorma on November 18, 2005, 12:14:36 am
They arrive and sit there with a speed of 0. I fought the fighters normally but once they were all dead I had nothing to do (Except for ordering the Corvette and cruiser to attack one of the Saths. You might think about changing that one! :) )
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogalo

Spoiler:
Is the YMCA music supposed to only play one time through? It cuts out for me when the view shifts to show the ships spelling out Y-M-C-A and then there's no music the rest of the mission. And this was the case on both the 9/20 and 11/17 builds.

Problems aside, that mission had me laughing like crazy! That has to be the most explosions I've ever seen at one time. :lol:

kara: Did the Inqusition show up? If not then there's a problem with that arrival, which I'll have to fix.

Maybe you sequence broke something. :p I'll have to take a close look at my chained sexps. Sounds like something goofed up the massive beam free all cue.
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: Cobra on November 22, 2005, 08:21:31 pm
are they all beam-freed at the start or are they beam-freed at a specific time? because there IS the option of beam-free-alling the ships by default in the mission specs window. :) :p
Title: Re: RELEASE - Just Another Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
Post by: Axem on November 22, 2005, 08:32:16 pm
I don't want them to beam free all right away. The Inqusition demands silence while delivering their edicts!

But that did give me an idea to look into it. The beam-free-all commands are chained to something that's chained to some other event. Something might be going wrong somewhere in there. So now the beam free alls are now triggered when the Inqusition leaves, which hopefully should look the same.

http://www.game-warden.com/narfin/campaigns/axm_jad4.fs2

Try this one out and see if it works or not.

I looked through FRED and found nothing that would make the time thingy do that. :wtf: Veeeery interesting. The only thing I can suggest is find an older build and try it with that for now.

I don't know whether I should scream in uncontrollable horror or hope you're telling the truth.

I'm getting the knossos exploding problem in the mission where *spoiler* kill fred2 for the second time... is there a fix ?  I'm using the latest build RC3... interestingly if I use D3d the screen goes white instantly.  With OpenGL it fades slowly  :confused:

Finally found out what was making the Knossos blow up. It appears right in the middle of debris and that takes out all of its health. But with the magic of invunerability, that problem is done.

And in my replaying of JAD2, I found a few things I should've fixed, and did so. So call it... JAD2.1 or something. (http://www.game-warden.com/narfin/campaigns/axm_JAD2EB.rar)

If you are in the process of playing JAD2 right now, in theory, replacing the vp should work. I didn't touch the campaign file or the names of the missions.

Hello.

I recently (yesterday) decided to reinstall FS2, as well as the SCP. I used a clever installer thingy, and was pleased. But one problem: the main campaign SUCKS. It's boring and hard. Too many defense missions. So I check the "campaigns and missions" folder.

I see a thread called Just Another Day 2; Electric Boogaloo. I vaguely recall seeing something called Just Another Day. "That was supposed to be have been popular, wasn't it?" I download the sequel first.

...THANK YOU VERY MUCH. YOU ARE THE NEW GOD OF FREESPACE 2. This campaign was the funniest, and most enjoyable Freespace 2 thing I have ever played. The humour made me snort with laughter. And as for the [OMGSPOILORZ]"Kill Derek Smart"[/SPOILORZ] Mission, well... It began, the camera panned, and THEN...

(http://content.ytmnd.com/content/4/8/5/4850c14031fc94947acd8bc734f123aa.gif)

I laughed so hard. And then everything exploded. :D

I thank you again. This was so good, i'm even going to try the first! Great job. MUCH KUDOS TO YOU!

in that dueling mission, after killing the bastard in his 3 rd form, the screen becomes white and stays like this! when i read the messages by pressing f4, etc... it says something about a knossos device, but with the white screen i cant do a thing. What should i do???   :(

That's the second time I've seen someone have that problem. So I've put up a note about it in the original post.

Yay!

By the way, Axem, your mod.ini crashes on OS X Launcher 3.7 because of a non-standard character in the mod description.

Just like the first one, great stuff !

ps. Although the first one if I can be honest, was better to me (maybe because it was something new). Still the second was great. Loved the Kill Derek part :]
