THIS CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN RERELEASED! PLEASE GO HERE TO PLAY AN EVEN BETTER VERSION! (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=71634.0)
Right, well, it's another mini-campaign by me. This one is along the same lines of Deus Ex Machina, in short, its a comedy. This shall complete my trifecta of FreeSpace humour and move on to other stuff...for awhile. Here is the official description!
---
Today was like any other day. The birds were singing, the sky was blue. Then came tomorrow...
YOU
ARE
Alpha 1, newly recruited to the GTVA. Your lifetime experience handling such unknown craft as the TIE Fighter and the Ferret puts you incharge of the great Alpha Wing.
It is now time for your very first assignment. Loads of spam are hurting everybody in the GTVA, their mailboxes are too large for GMail2, bandwidth is so slow, it takes an hour to download 100TB. Truely dark times. Fight off the forces of darkness and free your mailbox from the cluches of EEEEEEEVIIIIIIIL!
Get ready to see the following things in random order in 6 action packed missions!
- plotholes!
- copyright infringements!
- references to Disco Music!
- the power of ETAM, the next-next-generation of ETAK!
- God*!
- unexpected twist ending!
- AND MORE!
Coming...NOW!
*God may not be God, your God may vary.
**Any resembelence between this and Deus Ex Machina is entirely coincidental...maybe...
---
It's all VP'ed, just drop it in the FS2 Root directory and play it. Also included is a squad patch (42nd Hitchhikers ;)) and a mysterious wav file. Don't play it, or it'll ruin it all!! This was tested on Normal, I don't know how it'll work on Insane or Very Easy. Sometimes messages get sent at the same time so they may be out of synch of whats happening. You'll really see this in Mission 3, nothing much I can do about it though. The missions are tougher than DEM, you'll actually do some flying to survive. And with that...
Screenies!
It's a trap! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/NarfPics/NarfinPix/trap.jpg)
You'll be flying this for most of the time. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/NarfPics/NarfinPix/hitchhike.jpg)
It's more Bosch Beer! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/NarfPics/NarfinPix/boschbeer.jpg)
There's pain, and then there's Motrin pain... (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/NarfPics/NarfinPix/pain.jpg)
And what you are all looking for...
Go see the link at the very top to play the rereleased version!
Just remember, you do need the SCP to play. Now to start on A Pirate's Life, another campaign that I'll post stuff about later. Have fun!
EDIT: Oops, forgot to include a Readme. It's not needed, but I like to have them there.
2nd EDIT: Updated VP is up. Minor fixes in 3 missions, but I forgot what one of the fixes was...
3rd EDIT: REMOVED!
-
Yay! A PROFESSIONAL B-campaign! :D
DL now, will play tomorrow, when sleep have had... uh...
-
DEM was very good. I have a problem to complete DEM, because it was so funny :D

Naaaah. This thing is a work of art. ART I SAY!
Just about as good as DEM. Almost.
P.S.
Rock on! I haven't seen a campaign released AT ALL, for some time. Except Inferno, of course. *Awaits R1.5 and (can it be?) R2, and even (good lord) R3.
*Dies of anticipation, much to the satisfaction of his numerous, yet amusing, enemies
-
This? Work of art? Nah, you were probably playing Homesick or something.
I have to play DEM again to see how much I ripped off of it... :p
-
I'll give it a try tomorrow, but it looks great from what I've seen.
I'm especially curious as to what purpose the song "Disco Inferno," which I found in the VP file, can have :p.

Bad Mongoose!
;)
-
I'm blind!!!
-
Crap! I goofed! :p
-
Heh sounds funny *Downloads""!
-
I finished the whole campaign.
And what's worse is that I enjoyed it.
-
Loved it. Nice ending - and great music too!
-
I liked it. There was one technical problem in that we are not given the ability to scroll in the command briefings in the first mission. The result was that I could not read 95% of what it said.
-
Ah-ha! Found the problem! Use of semi-colons in the orginal message, which do not carry well to FS2. I'll upload a new one a bit later. It'll have some other fixes I missed too.
EDIT: Which I just did.
-
I still remember thinking, when I heard that background music..."My god, he IS evil!"
And...let's see...riffs of...Final Fantasy (twice), Star Trek, Stargate...those are the ones I remember off the top of my head, anyways.
-
Okay, I remember using FF once (Bard), but what was the second one you saw? It probably slipped in unconsciously while listening to an FF soundtrack when making the mission...
Use spoiler tags ([ spoiler] [/ spoiler]) if you want, so you don't ruin it for other people. *Glares at Mongoose*
-
A Rakka...A Raskcha...RA...some Shivan cruiser just came out of the portal. Go kill it!
-
All right, I went back and edited my post. Happy now? :p
Great campaign, by the way. I was cracking up at some of the lines in there.
"He sings well for a dead guy" :p
I did have a glitch where half of the ships, both fighters and capital ships, would show up as completely invisible except for engine trails. While I could wear down their shields, I couldn't kill them except by using secondaries. This forced me to cheat in a few of the missions in order to kill some persistent capital ships. (That's the first time I've equipped beam cannons through cheats while using the SCP; nothing like letting a BFRed rip :p) Mind you, I had to temporarily install SCP on my old family computer, which is by no means qualified to run it (we're talking 5 seconds/frame at some points :p), so I'm sure that's where the errors were coming from. Very nicely done :D.
-
The Colossus X-2? Final Fantasy...X-2?
-
This is the GTVA Co... HOLY CRAP! FULL STOP!! FULL ST... *smack*

-
"It would help if I started firing my beams, wouldn't it?"
That was a classic.
-
You made my eyes bleed (every mission you fly straight towards a sun, and I think one of the suns MOVED on the last mission), you sadistic fool!
Okay...no spoilers...but i've got to say...the ending was spooky.
SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Aaaah yes, now I remember. You'd think I'd know what I put in my own campaign. :p
-
Watchasaout! This has given me an idea. I will go
-
played it and there was some good humour
-
A hillarious campaign! Great humour!
"Someone needs to go and explore the Knossos Portal" "I nominate Alpha 1" "All who agree say aye" "Aye" "Aye" "Aye" "Uh......nay?"

-
Geez, at this rate soon the entire script will be posted. :p
Glad you all like it. :)
-
Started playing it and was enjoying it but it crashed on the second mission with this message
Error: Could not load in 2_Debrief-m!
File:U:\src\cvs\fs2_open.pilot\code\UI\WINDOW.cpp
Line: 215

kernel32.dll 77e814c7()
------------------------------------------------------------------
There appears to be no debriefing for mission 2.
-
Ehh, that's the corrupt-on-load bug.
The game couldn't load the interface graphic for the debriefing screen. Check my recent bug note on Mantis for more details.
Simply restart the game and it'll be fine.
-
The odd thing is there is actually no debrief. I checked the mission in notepad (too lazy to look in FRED).
I'll give it another try though.
-
Blame the vanishing de/breifings on Fred. At one point I didn't want one, then when I did, Fred wouldn't let me change it. *Shakes fist at Fred*
-
I actually thought that was another joke about n00b campaigns...they tend to be missing bits.
-
Naah, If I would've done that you would've seen "No Debriefing for XXXXXX". :p I wouldn't be THAT subtle... or would I?
But on that point, it seems like a bug for Fred. With another one of my missions I couldn't change the loadout to some fighters, but for some I could.
-
I played it until the second mission.
The first mission was adequate in difficulty, quality and fun. The problem came up as soon as I entered the second mission. I was overwhelmed to at least 1 to 6, the enemy fighters kept jumping in and I could not keep all of them up on my complete own. There were simply too many of them. Needless to say I died. You know, people should spend some hours making a mission of adequate difficulty. Over these conditions I would omit to rate the campaign as it is quite obvious.
The campaign quickly ended up in my recycle bin.
-
...eh? *blinks* What difficulty were you playing at?
-
Hurray my first complaint!
Er, yes. :nervous:
That's quite interesting. Mission 2 gave me the most grief in terms of Fredding (the Colossus part mostly), however balancing wasn't a large issue. There are 2 fighter wings and a single bomber wing. What did you get killed by?
I played and tested it many times and died a few times as well. That tells me that the missions isn't easy, but I'm still able to complete it more than half of the time. Yeah, I know exactly what's going to happen, but I make allowances for that.
Oh well, just be glad you didn't play Mission 5 where over 4 cap ships warp in and shoot you with flak and AAA beams at point blank. I found that part to be the most unfair of the campaign.
Anyhow, thank you for bringing that up. I'll be sure to closely watch balancing in the future. I shall release an updated campaign eventually with more a few more bugfixes that slipped by.
-
Uh....mission two is really, really easy. Are you playing on Hard mode? On medium it is cake. Or pie. Or whatever.
-
I played on Medium, perhaps something did not happen to me as it was supposed to.
-
 I am incapable of using any of the forums features-spoiler removed.
-
Check the spoiler tags!
-
My favourite bit was the fight with FRED
All weapons are now slaved into the tag system fire at will Alpha 1 :)
:D
-
Whoa, awesome. Just wait till I get home and post a highlight. Unless someone else gets to it before I do. ;)
-
I'd say that would be motivation for a slightly updated version... :D Just fixed small bits and pieces in Missions 2 and 3. Should be up now.
-
I've played this entire campaign through....four times? Five times?
So addictive...so fun...
-
Just got around to play the game! I was laughing so hard that I can't aim properly :). Dang that was fun. Good job!
-
erm.. crashed on the Collosus mission, is this supposed to happen ? :

TopAce is scared of the big red flash that occurs when you get hit. That might explain it :nervous::doubt:
-
Hey this sounds like fun. I'll download it. :)

I obviously wouldn't write that on Axem's account.

And where'd my coat go? :p
Anyway...
Posted by Blitzerland in another thread
 Heres hoping for a sequel!
Then posted by Axem in another thread
Naw, I'm just going to pull a George Lucas and periodically re-release the campaign with "subtle" changes. In the next version, the Shivans shoot first!
HA! The joke is on you! You thought it was a joke, but it isn't!
Just Another Day: Special Edition is released! Now with changed breifing music and a totally revamped mission 5.
Seriously.
Mission 5 was starting to crash on newer builds of the SCP, so I changed it so it would work. I also sneaked in some other changes...
I also have just the mission available for download if you don't want to redownload 3.6 mb (for the 56kers). Just pop that into your data/missions folder and it should override the vp.
Atleast in theory that should work...
Check my original post for links.
-
I'm having problems with CTDs in the recent FSO-builds, and I constantly get one in mission 2 (most likely not your fault, don't worry). I made a topic over at the SCP-forum. Just letting you know.
-
LOL...Great campaign!
This and DEM are just too cool to be true!
-
This is the funniest campaign I have ever seen...ROFL...
...Will you make another one? :) rofl! MOAR! =D I laughed so hard in Mission 3 I couldn't even fight cuz my hand was shaking from laughing so hard =D
-
No, no sequel, at least not for a long while. Too much other stuff going on, FS-wise and school-wise.
-
Ummm, don't know if this has come up before, but this campaign does not appear to work in FS2 retail. I go the campaign screen, select it (it comes up), and seems to be set to play it. But it won't let me into the ready room. Go back to the campaign screen, and no campaign is selected. Can repeat the procedure forever.
(And DO NOT tell me to go download the SCP. A P2-350/128 MB ram cannot run the SCP).
-
Well sorry then, it only works with the SCP. :(
-
The link to JAD is not working. I've got a few friends interested in playing it, but the linky to GW just gives a 404. Any chance you can fix this? :/
-
Here you go. :)
http://www.game-warden.com/narfin/campaigns/axm_JAD_SE2.rar
The GW link goes to a zip while the actual file is a rar. :nervous:
Whoopsy.
-
BUMP
Thank you JAD for, after a recent play, putting that song into my head again.
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN
-
Burn that mama down.
-
putting that song into my head again.
Good ringtone material.
-
MSRS (mental song repetitiveness syndrome) is a *****
-
Hate to say this, but the 1st link is 404, and the new one is Document Not Found. :blah:

I'd like to see the responses...

Only appropriate if you're being publicly cremated.
-
Only appropriate if you're being publicly cremated.
Heh, I want cremation, it's bad enough spending my life in a room I can barely move in, don't want to spend my death in one too ;)
-
thx Lobo
-
Hilarious !!!
"I'm blind"
Great humour !!!
ps. "Can we close the iris now ?"
-
NECROTHREADAGE!
That said, I don't think I've ever actually played JAD. :nervous:
-
Do eeet. Do eet nao.
-
That said, I don't think I've ever actually played JAD. :nervous:
You... WHAT?!?
You've played DEM (http://www.freespacemods.net/request.php?26) though, right? Of course you have. RIGHT??
-
that song always makes me remember about a happy dancing lizard
-
Actually, I have played DEM. Just not JAD.
-
After playing JAD, you will never look at disco music in the same way you did before.
-
I think of exploding NTF fighters when I listen to Disco Inferno. :nervous:
-
What about when you hear the YMCA song?
-
Some madman screaming with a baseball bat making wooden barrels explode.
-
Actually, I have played DEM.
Both releases, I hope? :)
-
Wow, people still play these campaigns? Who knew?
Just to let you all know, I am slowly working on a 3.6.12 mediavp update for all three JADs. Some stuff got broken with the newer models (the new Hattie for one), and there's some things I want to go back and add/fix/do right. :nervous:
-
You... Wouldn't... Ruin the HTL Hattie with that horrendous paint would you!?
-
What do you think the first thing I did was?
-
OH GOD NO WHAT HAVE YOU DONE YOU MONSTER
-
Hahaha :D
That sucks.
-
:wakka:
-
Oh lord
-
OH GOD NO WHAT HAVE YOU DONE YOU MONSTER
Axem is your Space Jesus, never forget this!

OH GOD NO WHAT HAVE YOU DONE YOU MONSTER
Do remember that it is made with Terran paint. ;)
The Orioahesput is lulz.
