Looks like an insanely cooler version of Fracture

It seems to be pretty weak compared to inFamous.
Very few reviews yet, Activion seems to have hold it back until launch which is always a bad sign.

IGN has the first review and it's just average in their mind.

From the few reviews so far (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/prototype), it's looking a bit better than Infamous.

I saw the Steam ad, that's it.

mmm... looks like a mere sonic type of game... going everywhere destroying everything fast and high, or like hulk but without the muscules and the green stuff... not that interesting to me, for weird stuff I just replay Bioshock.

better than inFamous? I doubt that, inFamous is incredible fun.

But hey, I'll give it a chance.

The reviews I saw seemed to indicate it was meh compared to Infamous.  Which is to bad since even ZP liked Infamous and i don't have a PS3.

ZP liked it? Wow, I need to watch that video to believe it.  ;)

EDIT: Saw it. A really fair review. (unlike for example the Uncharted one. Uncharted is the best PS3 game to date and ZP decided to hail the game a KKK propaganda product. Okay, it was funny  :D ).

Seriously, the game is that good. It's a game that wowed me, problem is I already posted in that thread before playing it the first time  ! GO BUY IT!

Interesting that some reviews about Prototype praised the huge draw distance and the fluid controls while others complained about the small draw distance and the stiff controls.  :nervous:
From the trailers, I'd be with the later.

Prototype's web of intrigue is interesting. Reminds me of Prey's cutscenes.

i found it very entertaining. Like how as the game story develops so does the surrounding city :)

the main story is actually well done .

The rest of the game is it's downfall. Controls are stiff and overloaded, there are far too many abilities/combos included and the combat system is pretty much button mashing. Mayhem, yes but not the furious but very tactical and controlled mayhem of inFamous. The city is also underdeveloped and the side missions suck bad (especially since NONE is related to the game, they are pretty much all just stupid challenges without any reason of being there).

If it's the choice between inFamous and Prototype, go inFamous.

No, get Red Faction: Guerrilla and support [V]. :D

RF:G isn't on PC yet for some odd reason, and it will probably be a crappy port that requires a gamepad in order to not suck.  And no, I don't have a 360 or PS3.

I loved the game, thought it was a ton of fun - the main story was nonsensical and kind of stupid though; you would talk to characters maybe twice and then they'd do some game changing twist, or, here's a good one, the commander of the ground forces (Taggart) was in exactly one cutscene in the background in the very beginning of the game.
Spoiler:
One of the last missions has you hunting him down, and all Mercer keeps talking about is how he hates to have to do this and damn you Taggart and generally carrying on like, you know, he's actually been mentioned in the last ten hours of gameplay.

Necroing an old topic from the depths of the dead.

Last week I bought Prototype off from Steam fairly cheap, I regret not getting it last time it was on discount. As for the choice between Prototype and inFamous, it was fairly easy! InFamous is not available for PC. :p

In any case, Prototype is a lot of fun despite its flaws. Unlike a lot of games, Prototype manages to make the player character feel like he's actually damned strong and fast. There are a lot of different moves you can pull off, the downside is that usually you stick and learn only a few of them because it's at least to me impossible to remember all of them. The world is filled with plenty of different missions, but as said before, they're mostly challenge type missions designed to suck up player's time. Doing them rewards you with experience points (or whatever they were called) and allows you to buy ability upgrades. So they're kind of essential.

But most importantly. The game is fun to play! Eagerly waiting for Prototype 2 which should come April next year.

Yeah I agree, in spite of this game's obvious flaws it's a blast and I really enjoyed it. The story is dumb but presented in a cool, engaging way and it has a couple chilling moments (learning about PARIAH for instance).

Just went to play it and I swear to god, it has disappeared from the Sacred Terabyte of Gaming Goodness

I despised the layout of the City. Then again, I compared it to GTA IV

But yes, it was fun. Some of those vehicles, hodamn.
Never did complete the Web

You know, I beat that game like 3 times and I still don't know the layout of the city.  Hard to really care where roads are when you typically travel by rooftops or skyjacking.

Liked this game a lot.  Had plenty of flaws, especially with combat lacking in variety, but was fun.
Made it hard to actually enjoy Infamous or Infamous 2 though.   The combat itself is much better in those games, but the mobility sucks ass by comparison.  Not a good thing when so much of the game is going from place to place.

I'm concerned about the sequel though.  Plot-wise, the released trailers so far are very much "WTF, Did you guys actually play the first one?"

Maybe that's what they were going for. Speaking of which, we may as well convert this one into number two.

Remembered, why it was not contained within the hallowed platters of the sacred terabyte of gaming goodness
I buggered the game up hex editing the exe file to properly support widescreen and i had to uninstall it (now there is a res changer program available on widescreen gaming website)
just re installed it today as it is indeed loads of fun
plus having free hdd space available is against the teachings of the gaming gods and as a devout believer I would never knowingly commit such an act of heresy...

ps: prototype a microsoft games for windows game doesnt work with a microsoft sidewinder mouse - brilliance in action

How so?

"Destroy your maker.  Destroy Alex Mercer."

You can't destroy Alex Mercer, and he's sure as hell not Heller's maker.  Alex Mercer was dead before prototype 1 even began.  The protagonist was Zeus, aka the blacklight virus itself.
And it doesn't infect anything - it just eats them.  If this ends any way other them Heller finding out he's not actually Heller, just another part of blacklight, and merging with Zeus I'll be very disappointing.

Eh.

While Mercer as the person and the scientist who he used to be has been dead ever since before the first game began, you can still use his name for the being (aka virus) that took over his body. Half the time Mercer is referred to as either Zeus or Mercer, so both are correct when referring to it. Also, I'm pretty sure Zeus or Mercer whichever you want to call it is capable of infecting others just like Greene (or Mother if you want to call it that instead) was. Because he was essentially the protagonist in the game, he didn't do it, even going as far as to save Mercer's sister. On the other hand, Mercer when he was still alive actually did cause the initial outbreak of the virus, so in a sense he did infect others albeit indirectly.

So, as Heller was infected by the virus by Zeus/Mercer and because the thing is better known as Mercer because Zeus is a code name Blackwatch gave it, it is quite correct to call it Mercer even in Prototype 2. Heller may not even know the code name at the time of him being infected.

So in short, if you have a problem with the Zeus being also called Mercer, then you have a problem with about a third the dialogue in Protoype 1. And if we have now established it can be called Mercer, Mercer's body should be destructible by plenty of means. I mean probably even you died quite a few times in the game, you weren't completely invincible.

The bigger problem with the slogan of Prototype 2 is that it sounds cheesy, but I'm willing to give it benefit of doubt and wait how good a game it'll be.

Also, I wonder if Pariah will make an appearance in Prototype 2. A three way battle royale between Mercer, Heller and Pariah would be quite a spectacle. :D
