Re: Steam on Linux now official
I'm pretty sure Windows 8 is a train wreck.  They're forcing the tablet/touchscreen interface down our throats and trying to more quickly usher in the obsoletion of the mouse (touchpad/trackball)/keyboard interface.

Which is an absolute load of ****, if you ask me.

So yeah, Mr. Newell was pretty much right, and yeah, Steam on Linux is awesome, and for me, having this combined with Linux support going into the Unity game engine (what I dabble into outside of FSO), this is going to open up tons of possibilities.
Who uses forum signatures anymore?

I don't think the mouse is going to be anywhere near obsolete in our lifetime anyway. So, so much for that.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Opinion?  OK, opinion:

No it doesn't.

Mayhaps it could work better, but, they've been working on that.  Maybe not to please everyone, but I wouldn't say everyone outside a niche of a niche of users use computers for insane things.  lolwut?  OKIE....

I'm sure ubuntu drives you nuts.  That's fine, but then again, so does the Office ribbon for some people.  Including me.  However, I'm open-minded enough to admit the Office ribbon does seem to be a bit more optimized for certain things.  I just wish they'd kept the menus accessible by all the old keyboard shortcuts in Office 2010.

Try Linux Mint with Cinnamon and then tell me that again.

I actually have both, so I will.  Just a matter of getting the time to burn the DVDs and actually try them.  I have the .isos already.  This is about Unity, isn't it?  :p

Its on the overall useability front actually. I dont need something that pretends to be a bastard child between mac os x and roadkill.

Unity is designed well enough so that both Windows and Mac users can migrate to Ubuntu almost effortlessly. It accomplishes this goal very well.

It's really not that terrible. It's more useable than Windows 8's new start menu.

Re: Steam on Linux now official
I just want to reiterate that the first os stop for people considering switching from win to linux should be a KDE distro in the 4.8/4.9 range. If you want to be able to throw the steam native client on there and just go, I suggest kubuntu or the mint kde spin, both of which should be directly binary compatible. KDE has a slightly more familiar ui paradigm, to my mind, for windows powerusers, and none of that handholding unity-so-your-grandparents-can-use-it stuff.
