Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
I meant after hitting the button.  On a mac, the folder browser window that opens up is different than on windows.  It has a drop down with a few starting directories, a list of folders in the current directory (not a .. though), and a file format selector.  That's it.  No create folder, nothing else.  No way I can see to get to the Applications folder easily.

EDIT:  Ok, I missed it the first time, the drop down list at the top did have a hard drive root level choice, which then has the applications folder in it.  So don't worry about that I guess.  But I'm still having issues with the mod selection screen not showing up.

EDIT2:  Ok, that's working now too, don't know what I did differently.  But it loaded fine now.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Ok, this isn't my day for macs apparently.  While downloading the few things that I had checked, just for testing, it just decided to stop again.  It got the executable and the launcher, but failed to actually get any of the mods.  I had checked Just Another Day, and it seemed to have gotten stuck on that one.

I'm on a campus, and I have a wired 10mb connection straight to the campus pipe.  There may have been something going on with another computer that's on the hub I have set up, that this computer goes through.  It's fairly reliable most of the time since they started throttling high bandwidth users, but I wasn't being throttled at the moment.

Just to say that it is running right now, it seems to work just fine, and it's a totally brilliant idea, kudos Turey, this is great work :)

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
I'll tell you guys right now any installer Turey makes is worth waiting to download. I'm on high sped cable and I have a win xp machine in the back on dial up, and I've waited all night downloading his installer, just to install Freespace on that particular computer.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
Installer updated, changelog to follow.

Don't be scared by the version string on this one, I'm not stopping development. This is simply the version I'm going to turn in for school credit.

Changes:
-Minor UI changes, bit more user-friendly.
-Stupid bug fixed.
-Preliminary proxy support added. I'm not at all sure it'll work, but it's worth a try if you can't get past your proxy otherwise. Simply make a text file with the name proxy.txt and the following contents:
Code: [Select]
www.yourproxyserver.com:80
user:pass
Replacing the relevant parts with your proxy's info (you can leave out the second line if you don't need to log into the proxy). This file then goes in the folder where you're running the Installer from (not the folder you're installing to, but the one with FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.(jar||exe) in it). You probably won't get the pretty pictures on the top and side, but you'll get the files.

Re: FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now!
I have a little problem here...

I downloaded the installer 5 minutes ago, and it seems the newest version does not work for me. I have installed the latest apple updates, including Java, and I am on an Intel iMac 17".

After the screen which asks me if I want to update the installed sections only, and stuff like that, I hit "next", and the installer just stops responding. I leave it alone for some minutes, and the next screen is completely blank for me, where it should display what files I want to install.

The application has generated an error log, "installer_error.lol.txt". This is it:

It seems that it creates the folder "Installer" which contains the info files for the data to be installed, but something happens since then. Has anyone reported this problem? Note that the older version of the installer worked fine on my computer (although I hadn't tested it on my Intel Mac, I had a PPC processor a few days ago).

All I get is this and then the installer stops.

Starting section: FreeSpace2 Retail Core
Checking: FRED2.exe
Current File Size: 93160
New File Size: 2973696
The File FRED2.exe is out of date.

erm... correct me if I'm wrong, Turey, but might this be caused by not having retail patched to 1.2, and trying to install SCP over that?  To fix it, then, you'd have to get the 1.2 patch.

No the bar isn't moving.
But since it is working for everyone else I must be doing something wrong.
Do I have to do a manual install with the CD's and then run this? I thought it would work basically as a full installer.
My ISP is also not blocking the connection. ( I guess I shouldn't say that. It might be lol)

It does work as a full installer. It's connecting to the internet fine, which means it's likely a problem with your comp.

If you can use a command prompt, grab the .jar version, navigate to the directory where you downloaded it to, and type "java -jar -Xmx128m FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.jar" and hit enter. It should print debugging info to the command prompt. Once it freezes, right-click, hit "Mark", select the info it printed, and hit enter. This will copy it, and then you need to paste it here.
